I just took a 747-400 flight from DFW to NRT on Sunday. I was in the business class cabin. I also flew business on the NRT-BKK route in May. These are only my 'samples' with JL.

I get an impression that JL's business class seats do not recline as much as those of UA, AA or NW do. I frankly found it much more comfortable with those U.S. airlines.

Is this only me? Could I invite any comments from any of you who have flown both JL and any of those U.S. or other airlines?

Beside the seat itself, I do find Japanese food is better on JL than on UA, AA or NW, and I also liked cabin attendants a lot better on JL, maybe except UA's SIN-based attendants.

Western food is a different matter, though. Salad is pratically the same as one served on SQ's economy class on NRT-SIN, I thought.

I haven't flown JAL business in years. I liked the experience, but recent changes in US seat pitch, etc'd probably make them more reclinable unless JAL has made similar changes. (Prob'ly not.)

I remember JAL service and food being excellent, although when rerouted from AA to JAL after a nightmare day of delays due to Hurricane Floyd last Sept (this was 2-3 days after the hurricane) the Economy service seemed less than I'd remembered. -Perhaps everyone was just tired/stressed from the delays.

I'll be flying JAL (not business - unless we hit a major streak of luck) next month to Bali. Here's hoping the service is good!

I just completed a trip on coach class SAN>LAX by UA2030, LAX>NRT by JL061 and NRT>HKG by JL735.

I agree JL's cabin attendants a lot better than UA & other US airlines. I was very impressive that a flight attendent let me try to steping on a piece of bamboo wood which is used for foot massage. Although her English isn't very good, she used a lot of wording to express her meaning.

But JL ground service is very stupid. My baggages were checked-in by UA ground attendands in SAN airport. UA already checked them through HKG (I found the baggage tape original issued by UA is LAX>NRT>HKG). UA told me there is no problem because UA & JL have baggage transfer agreement in LAX. When I reached LAX for getting the boarding pass by JL, I repeatly confirmed with JL ground that I have 2 baggage transfered from UA2030. Then JL ground in NRT repeated to confirm me that "no problem" for my baggage transfer in LAX.

Finally, my baggages didn't come with me when I reached HKG airport. After JL delivered the baggage to my home for 6 hours baggage delay. I found JL put a hand-writting "NRT" pink color label to cover the original UA's baggage tape "LAX>NRT>HKG".

The main point is the double confirmation about baggage transfer when I reached LAX & NRT. But JL did it wrongly for me. A little bit disappointed about JL.
