OK,

So, we finally started planning our Daughter's Bat Mitzvah in Jerusalem (December 2007).

This is what we have so far :

Location for our Bat Mitzvah morning service : Robinson's Arch (on the southern tip of the western wall) -- planning for around 9AM on Monday morning, December 24th, 2007 - we plan on conducting the service ourselves (with the help of friends) and have coordinated the use of a Sefer Torah and siddurim.

Hotel for our stay in Jerusalem : The David Citadel Hotel; we plan on reserving a block of rooms --- and also coordinating a number of meals for our guests.

We expect to only be a "small" group of around 15 to 30 people. We are just in the planning stages, so would love to hear any advice or suggestions from folks who have attended or planned a similar event.

Thanks ! Michael

My sister got married in Jerusalem 9 months ago. The wedding took place in a private home's garden looking up towards Jaffa Gate. The reception that evening was in the ballroom of the David Citadel (thus my reply). We were at the hotel for several meals in different eating places. We were greatly impressed with the quality of the food and service each time. BUT, I thought the food and service in the ballroom for the big party (some 400 people) was not very good - especially considering the dollars being spent. For the much smaller party you are planning I think they will do a good job.

Note that the David Citadel's location is excellent. Centrally located and an easy walk (or short cab/bus ride) to the Old City. Many of the guest rooms have terrific views of the Old City (and some are just looking out on busy and noisy streets).

Best wishes.

Keep in mind that Jerusalem in late Dec can be quite cold and rainy. I don't know many people who plan outdoor events at this time of the year.

OTOH, compared to MA weather at this time of the year, Jerusalem is actually quite warm ... :)

Have a great time, and stay safe. I had my bar mitzvah in Jerusalem. My parents chartered a plane, and we brought about 200 people with us. It was the time of my life, and my friends still talk about it. If you want more info, PM me.
