A friend flew on 11/12/06 from HMO (Mexico) to-PHX-to SAT (arrived 8pm) and US Airways lost the luggage on the leg from PHX-SAT.
At SAT airport, the friend filed a missing bag report. As it turns out, US Airways does not process their own baggage at SAT, all processing is done by Continental (I think).
So the friend filed a missing bag report an hour after arrival at SAT with Continental. It is a day later, mid day (3pm) and Continental is still saying they don't have any idea where the bag is.
Any suggestions on how to handle this, from you experienced travellers would be appreciated. :D The friend is stuck without changes of clothes, etc.

I went through this nutroll two months ago in BRU. Granted, it was with BA, but the following things you'll want to consider:
1) Save all receipts for the stuff you need to buy to get on with your life. Don't go overboard, but don't go cheap either. They should reimburse you for everything. (Again, don't go hog-wild buying things.)
2) Don't expect a phone call from the airline when they find your bags. Chances are, they have thousands of lost bags to process. I went to the airport and found my bags at BRU, long before they ever would have called. It was a sea of bags. Of course, this was a few weeks after the 'liquids scare'.
3) Be polite to all those people you deal with. The poor folks at the lost luggage office have a job worse than a TSA screener. They should provide you with a small shaving kit full of personal hygiene items. Remember, it isn't their fault that your luggage is lost, and they can't press a button and magically know where your bags are.

The friend should be contacting US Airways directly to find their luggage. The CO personnel at SAT treat US pax like the plague. They don't know how to properly use US's reservations system. By all means, call US immediately and explain the situation!
