On Thanksgiving I am taking my parents to FCO, they are flying in from Denver and they have a 2.5 hour layover before we all pile on the plane, I am coming from DCA. My parents are both a little over 70 and are easily confused. My father in particular has some minor difficulty walking so I suggested they ask for a cart to take them to the international terminal. The question is where do they request it, from the GA in Denver, the FA on the flight or the GA that meets the flight. I am also going to surprise them with GOEnvoy upgrades (if I can get them) so my efforts are all to make them as comfortable as possible. Thank you for the info.

Definitely the FA on the plane who will mention it to the gate staff in PHL as soon as the door is opened. I don't have any experience as to whether the GA in DEN will have any way to help but it's worth a mention.
Great idea on the GoEnvoy upgrades. Hopefully they will be available. FCO is a competitive route in Envoy. Also, make sure you take them to the Envoy lounge either way.

I'd have them mention it to all three. If they mention it at DIA, hopefully something will be put in their record so the folks in PHL will know in advance. If the FA knows, it can be passed on to the GA that meets the flight (in case he/she didn't notice the remark in the record). And finally, mention it to the GA at PHL, if for no other reason than to identify themselves as the one's wishing to utilize a cart.
Hope all of you have a great trip.

Easiest way is to call the CP Desk (since you're US1), explain the situation, emphasize that you're traveling with them from PHL onwards, and request that a Handicap (needing cart or wheelchair) notation be placed in their PNR. Done under 2 min.
Good idea too to keep reminding all US personnel along the way of the need for assistance.
I think all parents would love to have a son like you! Best wishes for GoEnvoy upgrades for them...

A lovely idea to give them GoEnvoy upgrades! They're generally released 1 day prior to the flight, so call Res then and pre-pay them with your credit card. Hope your folks have a great time.

I must confess that I am planning on purchasing the Go Envoy upgrades to alleviate some of the guilt I am feeling because I purchased an upgradeable fare ticket so I can use my CP certificates. After I bought my ticket I began to feel bad, so I thought that was a way to make me feel a little better. My parents have only been out of the country once about 25 years ago and never in an upgraded seat, so it should be a good time. Now I just need everyone here to put their good thoughts out there that I get upgraded this Thursday, paving the way for my parents upgrades :) Thanks to everyone for the info. I will be sure to close the loop on this and let everyone know what happened.

Hope it all works out. Right now flight 1402 is showing 17 seats open in Envoy on the 23rd, and 31 open on the 24th.

Be sure to mention it in Denver. They should be given little stickers to wear with their destination and gates on them. Then the FA should know and in Philly, the carts are very responsive. Depending on what gate they arrive, they might be asked to transfer carts to get to Terminal A. They will be asked for their boarding passes when picked up, but that's not a problem. It's also not a problem if they don't get the little stickers, either.
But as someone who uses the carts all the time, in Philly, the system works very well.
