I'm gonna be in Hong Kong between the dates of 12th and 30th of December. I've got a friend who would want to meet me over there but the cost of travelling there from where she's based (Liverpool, England) is too much.

Are there ANY other places in that region where you can get a flight to ANYtime (between 12th and 30th December) for ANY amount of period from England for roughly £299 (maximum)? Telling me a place where it is really cheap to fly from England to would be a good place to start!

However, it can be ANYWHERE in the Far East as long as its cheap/cheapest so if there are any other places cheaper than Hong Kong, I'd be so grateful if you can suggest them.

Oasis Airlines is definitely the cheapest option to Asia (assuming you can get the promotional rate mentioned above), and they fly non stop to HKG. You can get connections from there to anywhere else in Asia, but it'll be more expensive.

If your friend ends up taking Oasis, definitely report back on the experience. Long haul and LCCs could be an interesting combination :D

To OP: while I'm not overly familiar with European prices I find it hard to believe you will find anything even close to for roughly £299 (maximum)? especially over the holidays. Maybe a charter, but there was quite a bit of buzz when Oasis announced their price, so I would not hold my breath.

There might be cheaper deals available but the problem is getting the seats. The best bet is for you friend to check out the services of a large travel agency in Liverpool like Trailfinders who will be able to offer consolidator fares which we have no access to.

Air New Zealand is cheap -now- because they just started the route and have to compete with the likes of the 3 oneworld carriers operating the route. You won't find it cheaper to BKK or HKT as these are seasoned destinations with many europeans taking their winter vacations there.

If you want better deals, then PLEASE use a TA in England. From asia, you may travel cheaply using the LCCs there. But don't wait too long.. seats are going by the minute!

Very basic everyday abbreviations here on FT (FlyerTalk).

Generally three letters stand for airports, and while LCC is one of those, it's actually Low Cost Carrier. To find out the meanings hover your mouse over Help in the FlyerTalk toolbar at the top of the page (Help is on the right), and then click on either Airport Code Lookup or Glossary. You may wish to explore FAQ (frequently asked questions) as well.

You'll find FT mostly a friendly bunch, but we do like for you to do some homework.

HKG = Hong Kong, BKK = Bangkok, HKT = Phuket, TA = Travel Agent, LCC=Low Cost Carrier.

If your friend flies there on December 12th and departs on the return on December 25th (arriving at 6:20 AM that day), it's £301.05 all-in (taxes included). Does that meet your specs? Doesn't seem like anywhere else is going to be cheaper to fly into.
