Pilots of Hawaiian Airlines, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, International today expressed disappointment in response to management's request for federal assistance in on-going contract negotiations between the pilots' union and the airline, which began in November 1999. This is the first time in decades that either party has requested the intervention of a federal mediator in pilot contract negotiations and it comes at an extremely unusual midpoint of negotiations rather than the end of that process.
