View Full Version : Marathon =/= Hotel room?

I know I should have reserved a room a month ago, when I started looking, but I thought there would still be time. Now, it seems like all of the hotels are taken for Saturday and most Friday evenings before the marathon in December.

Is this normal? Or, will they release more rooms closer to the weekend? Just curious if I'm going to need a tent. :)

It's rather normal as the marathon attracts an additional 20k visitors to the Island for that one-day race.

Have you considered looking at a few of the Hotels away from Waikiki? You might consider the Ihilani, the Ala Moana Hotel, the ResortQuest Hotel downtown or the Pagoda resort.

Hotels of course can always release more inventory as the date gets closer, but for the marathon, you are booking rather close. ;)

Also, remember that there is the U2/Pearl Jam concert the night before the marathon, which is probably bringing in another 10k of visitors for the concert too.

Actually, this is the reason for the visit. We are flying in a few days earlier and hoping to get out just during the marathon, so we beat the mad crush back to the airport.

However, there are still no rooms available...throughout the island. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you managed to scrounge up something?

If you have HH Diamond Status or SPG Plat Status, this might be a good time to invoke the guaranteed reservations policies of the two hotel's top tier elite programs.

Hyatt Diamonds also have a reservation guarantee.

Unfortunately, it appears that for the purposes of SPG, they do not extend their guarantee to Hawaii hotels.

Unfortunately no. Tried the Diamond route too...but it was too late. Due to heavy demand, Hilton has envoked a blackout for the weekend.

Mahalo anyway. :)
