Continental Airlines won a battle to offer high-speed Internet service in its frequent flier club at Boston Logan International Airport, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission ruled today.

The FCC ruled against the Massachusetts Port Authority, or Massport, which ordered airlines in 2005 to unplug their wireless and wireline high-speed Internet services in their lounges and instead use the airport's fee-based system.

I wonder if the US Club will plug-in their standard wifi provider, T-Mobile? And, whatever happened to that rumor of free internet coming to US Clubs.... was it just a rumor?

HA! take that MASSPORT

They trotted out every excuse in the book for why every airline must use their "preferred" wifi vendor. The best one was that it would interfere with rescue services in case of emergencies. What a crock of ****.

At least someone was able to see throught that smokescreen. I was wondering when they would pull some sort of terror related excuse.

IE terrrorists could plan attacks on the CO wifi network against blind schoolchildren flying with their grandparents carrying medical equipment to Namibia using nuclear technolgy purchased on said wifi network.

Good for the airlines and good for the customers. Screw Massport

Now we need the airlines to find a way to offer wireless for free in their terminals, i.e. the US Air shuttle wing of terminal B.

Maybe if they'd just fix the plug outlets in the terminals people would pay for their serivce. The 10 bucks isn't coming out of my pocket I just never remeber to charge my laptop before going to the airport.

Glad Continental stood its ground and won! :)

Yea, the Massport logic was IMHO akin to a city offering a for fee service and then telling coffie shops and bars they couldn't offer a free serivice!

A big win for private business and a nice kick in the shins to overbearing government! ^ ^ ^

I'm moving this to the New England forum as it's not US specific.
