Hi All,

I'll be in BKK for a few days and am wondering if there is any pricing advantage in purchasing luxury goods there (mostly clothing - Armani, Prada, Zegna, etc) over Hong Kong. How about vs the US?

I know that BKK is one of the places to go for tailored items, but there are a couple of very specific things that I'm looking for and I would rather have the original.

Thanks!!

I do not know about the prices in Hong Kong; however, they are pretty much the same as in the US (and every places in the world). You can get a 8% tax refound when leaving the country.

Cheers

I've found name-brand luxe goods relatively expensive in BKK compared to other countries (specifically I was shopping Prada). I've been told Thailand slaps a "luxe tax" on these. In Asia, I've found HK to be cheapest, followed by perhaps Malaysia or Singapore. You can sometimes get a good deal in Japan through specialty mail order particularly if it's past the season.

An advantage of HK is that the luxe stores sometimes have a sale. Add that with a no-tax situation and it's often the best deal.

I also agree that good deals can often be found in Japan. However, you have to hunt for them a little more. Shinjuku, perhaps?
