My friend is contemplating purchasing a KE ticket since it offers her the best route to CGK from ORD.

Arriving into ICN at 4.35pm and leaving ICN at 5.15pm for CGK. Will she make the flight or it's safer for her to route through LAX on the outbound?

I am surprised KE would sell a ticket with such a tight connection. 40 minutes seems to be an impossible connection unless there were absolutely no delays in the transfer and the flight from ORD arrived on time. If the passenger is in economy I suspect she'd miss the connection because the F and C passengers deplane before the Y people. She then needs to walk down the concourse and pass the transfer station by showing the outbound boarding pass and her passport and then go through security. This is a brief process but if there are people in line in front of her, the risk increases she'll miss her next flight. There is then a short escalator ride up to the departure hall. The passenger then needs to locate the gate for the next flight that started boarding at least 30 minuets before the scheduled take off time.

It might be done, but if a more leisurely connection is available via LAX, that is the flight I'd take.

I'd check with KE. If the agent says it is a legal connection, take the ORD flight. Personnaly, I'd suggest a minimum of 1 hour to connect...

I think it your friend is on Korea Air flight to CGK in Incheon, then it would be safe. Otherwise, Korea Air will make everything it can do.
Anyway, Korean Air's ORD-ICN is served by a newly configured aircraft with PTV, AVOD and wireless internet. Wireless internet is free till the end of this year.

Frankly It won't take more than 15min form THE DOOR to CGK flight GATE, ;)

Now that is something I didn't know. I was on three KE flights that had internet service but thought $30 was a little steep + had a bunch of movies, some work, sleep and some nice co-passengers to give me company. I doubt if I will make it on another before the end of the year but if I do, will test it out.
