I have friends going to Hawaii Nov 19 for the first time. They are going with Perillo Tours which is happy to take their money and has not mentioned if any excursions are impacted by the road conditions. One trip is the circle around the Big Island. A friend in Kauai recommended they try to get out of the trip due to bad road conditions on the Big Island and Maui (bridges out, landslides). Any info, please. Here in CA, we have no information about post-earthquake Hawaii. Forgotten already. Thanks! And PS We totally love the islands, just wish our families were there and we would move in a flash. Best to all of you living there..

I've not been across the island, but the roads should all be clear on he Big island for a bus tour.

There is an off-and-on detour on the east side near Pauillo, and there's another spot where a quake-damaged bridge is only one lane, but the road is open all the way around the east side (and on the west side, afaik)
A circle-tour is going to be one long day!

I just returned from the BI - all the roads, save for some up near Hawi, are open and normal. Everything else is fine. I posted some comments in the consolidated earthquake thread, but there is no reason to cancel or delay the trip. All major roads and attractions are open and I saw tour buses operating normally, including the Island circle tours.

All are open, yes, but not all are "normal." E.g., the bridge over the Kawaalii Gulch (on the Belt Highway on the Hamakua Coast) lost a lane and is in such bad shape it will probably need to be replaced.
