Going to have a 8 hour layover in Frankfurt. Should I just crash at the
airline club lounge at airport or is venturing into town easily accomplished and worht the trip?
Also how much trouble is involved in getting back into airport relative to
passenger screening for a Thursday evening flight out? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks- :) -JOHN

If you do a search you'll discover this has been discussed many times before.
However, the short version is that 8 hours is more than enough time to escape the airport.
You can take a quick run into the city by train, where the center of the [much restored] old town is walkable from the train station. You can also get down to the river, etc.
Also highly recommended is to take the train in the other direction to Mainz, where the cathedral and the main square are not that far from the station and worth a trip. Wiesbaden is also close, but the main part of town is a fair hike from the station and doesn't offer any major tourist attractions.
Getting back through security should be more or less normal. Assuming you already have your boarding passes I would expect a wait in the 10-20 minute range and then a hike to your gate.
Trains are frequent but do check the return schedule before you begin your adventure.
