Anyone know where I could find more information about moving to Prague from outside the EU / UK? I'm wondering if it's possible to bring a cat into the Czech Republic without a lengthy, uncomfortable animal quantine.
cheers

Dental treatment is remarkably cheap in the Czech Republic when compared with that in the West. Many westerners combine a holiday here with a course of dental treatment (not my idea of a relaxing holiday).

Pharmacies (Lekarna)
A pharmacy or 'lekarna' in the Czech Republic really only sells medecines. A few are letting their hair down and expanding into shampoos etc., but this isn't the general rule. For nappies and other 'drugstore' bits and bobs, you have to look for a 'drogerie' or 'parfumerie' or the larger type of general store, a 'potraviny'.
24 hour lekarna usually charge a few crowns extra for their late night sales. You will probably feel that the whole place has shut down, but if you look carefully there is often a sort of hatch-window with a bell by it. Ring that and a sleepy apparition in a white coat will sell you what you need.

Pets & Vets
If you would like to import your little furry friend into the Czech republic, you (or at least your pet) must have an International Health Certificate and proof of a recent rabies vaccination. This must have been given at least one month before importing and at the most 12 months before entering the country. (Little furry babies of less than 3 months old may be excused from the vaccination).
If the pet is to be a tourist for less than 3 months, then your home vet must fill in the appropriate temporary import form and you must then tell Prague Airport the date and time of your arrival so that a state vet can meet you at the airport.
In case your pet decides to become a permanent resident, then you must complete a special form and take it to the Prague Veterinarian Office in Na Kozace 3, Prague 2 (tel: 255619 & 254977). The vet will then give you a certificate which states that the pet must reside indoors for a minimum of one month.
The next stage is to go, clutching all your papers, to the second floor at the Ministry of Agriculture (tel: 2181 2523, 2181 2484). They will issue a certificate of import. Finally, you have to call the airport vet (tel: 2011 3267) and give him the date and time of arrival of your pet so that he can roll out the red carpet.
If you come into the country by car, all the crossing points at the border have the relevant forms to fill in so there should not be too much of a problem. (An import permit costs 100 Kc) - or more than the pet in my case.
