Has it ever been possible to combine miles from UA with US miles for an award ticket?

OR is it just possible to use let's say 25000 miles from UA for a USAirways award ticket? If that's it, I don't have that kind of UA miles.

If I am short on an award for a RT USAIRWAYS award ticket what's the best way to make up that short fall? I was looking at the 21000 bonus on the Chase UA credit card, but then have to make up a 4000 mile deficit. OR I could apply for the SPG AMEX and transfer miles once I have the bonus and apply toward the deficit with USAIRWAYS? I have 31000 with US but will need to travel to my destination on two separate roundtrips to sign business papers on a land sale which will be in probate for awhile. So, after the first trip I would have only 6000 to use on US, and can find nothing to do with the 6,000 miles left except build on them(?). If I take advantage of the NETBANK US mileage promotion and earn 8000 US miles, what should I be doing in the meantime to get the 11000 miles?

How easy is it to achieve an AA 25000 award after applying for the AA Citibank card? Is availability good in most cases on non peak travel?

I guess I just want some guidance on which credit card to apply for. I already have the Juniper US Mastercard and the SW Chase, neither of which helps. I have HH Amex but will need the HH points for my hotel stay and my rental car. I need to achieve the 2nd award ticket by DEC-JAN timeframe.

Thanks for putting on the your thinking caps out there and replying.

Best wishes for your weekend!!! :D

It never has been possible to combine or transfer UA & US miles to use on an award. It IS possible to use 25K US or UA miles for an award ticket for the other airline or any combination of flights of both airlines.

From 1996--2001 or so it was possible to combine US & AA miles. I did it 2 or 3 times :) !

AA usually has the best award availability of the 3 airlines U mentioned. AA is also better here than DL, NW, & CO.

U should probably fly one award @ 25K US miles, & money-buy the other ticket. Please note that the award ticket's dates may be changed without fee, while the revenue ticket will probably have a $100 change fee :td:, so keep in mind which trip will require more flexibility.

Since you already have the Juniper US card, you could go for the BofA US Sig. Visa. That will give you 25,000 bonus miles with the first purchase. It would take you approx. 40 days from the time of credit approval until the miles post to US.

Hi all. Reading through this thread reminded me of a question I had regarding Dividend Miles. I'm not able to fly USAir much anymore due to business travel policies, but my wife and I each have a small pool of miles in each of our accounts. Is it possible to combine the miles (12k and 16k each) for one award, or must all of the 25k miles come from one account? Does anyone have any experience with USAir's flexibility (or lack thereof) when doing something similar?

I did spend a good deal of time searching, by the way, to avoid asking you all to repeat yourselves... but the search engine kept returning an error each time.

Thanks!

Nope, you can not do that. I beieve that's standard on most FF plans because it essentially increases the value of your miles.

The only time I was given an exception to this was during the DM/Flight Fund merger because an agent gave me the wrong information (specifically said I could combine my GF's miles with mine), but I doubt they'll grant another exception now that the accounts have been merged.
