I am flying my usual CMH->PHX->SJC route on Friday instead of Sunday, and bringing out the significant other with me for the weekend.

Since I'm a Silver, and she's not in DM, how much hassle is there to go through security/check in lines with me being Silver and her not? They're upgrading both as companions from the PHX->SJC leg of the trip (better than nothing!).

Actually, after an hour on the phone with someone at the DM Desk, here's what's up.

Because my ticket was booked on AW ticket stock (401 series tickets) and hers was booked on US ticket stock (037 series tickets), they can't do a companion upgrade for one segment of the trip for the bot of us.

While I can understand why they can't do it, it bothers me that I'm shelling out approximately $1K/week to them to fly to and from SJC and they can't fix it internally without me having to call my travel agent and get the number reissued on American West Ticket Stock.

Oh well...

That's who I'm off to bother now.

never had problems going through security as a *gold either with my wife, or with colleagues(who werent even on my same flight). I usually just mumble something to the TSA that, 'so and so is with me'.
As for your other issue on upgrade. Is that second leg an America West op flight? If so, try calling US air customer service, then ask to get transferred to an America West agent(i know...theyre technically one airline, but they are still working on merging their two computer systems). They might be able to upgrade you. During a PHL-LAS-SJC flight in june, US couldnt upgrade me in the window on any flights(had to ar airport), but HP upgraded me on their sections.
