The Louis Tavern Dayrooms are now open at Suvarnabhumi. After one failed attempt to find them, due to a temporary sign pointing in the opposite direction, I finally found them at the far end of concourse G. You have to walk through a long dusty and dirty construction area without any signs of life that will make you think for sure they aren't open yet, but if you reach the end, they are there. They don't have a phone installed yet, so you can't call to reserve a room. The bad news - the rates are much higher than at Don Muang where the price was just barely within the range to consider it acceptable vs. finding other accomodations outside the airport. Rates are as follows:
Even at those rates, all the standard rooms were taken last night and only suites were available.

Extortionate rates aside, are the rooms themselves any better? I found the old dayrooms at Don Muang to be pretty decrepit, and the high school gym style communal bathroom to be awful. The occasions when I had to stay there (forced overnights with accomodation voucher from TG) were when I was most happy to have *G and lounge access...

Those rates are still lower than the what the Novotel is charging across from the airport.
I have a flight that lands at 11pm. I'm hoping to only spend about 6 hours at the Dayrooms before TG opens their lounge (at 5am??)

I would love some more information on the rooms at the new airport. I have a 10 hr overnight layover at the end of November and I'm not sure if I want to fork over the dollars for the Novotel for such a short period of time. If the rooms are halfway decent and have private bathrooms then this might be a better deal.
Is there a website for this facility?

Though i haven't seen the new day rooms, i think the don muang terminal 2 day rooms were pretty decent. The TG STPC voucher day rooms in terminal 1 had shared bath, but the other regular day rooms had attached bath, and were big rooms, and worth the money. I preferred using them when on overnight transit with really early departure. I should be in the new Dayrooms one of these days pretty soon.. will report then.

Would be great to hear the experience (plus, if you can get their number, please PM me). I have a feeling it will be booked up in early January.

At 10 hours, it will run you 5,000 THB, plus you will have to reserve in advance if you want to be guaranteed a room. I'm not sure about their cancellation policy, but as of right now they said the only way to reserve a room was if you paid fully in advance, which sounded like perhaps there is no way to cancel. You can stay at the Novotel without restriction to change/cancel for only 3,500 THB per night according to their website. Even after adding on the 500 THB immigration fee (if you're transiting international to international), you're still 1,000 THB better off at the Novotel. For 4 hours, or maybe 6 hours, and if the rooms are decent (which they probably are being they're new), the Louis Tavern rooms might be considered a better alternative, but for more than 6 hours I'd personally never consider using them at those kind of prices.
Link for Louis Tavern Dayrooms (http://www.miraclegrandhotel.com/dayroom.html) only shows information for the now closed Don Muang airport, but hopefully they'll update it soon and/or you might be able to contact them by email for more information.

Yes, I just asked about that 2 days ago when I was at the lounge and they said they still have the same opening time of 5 AM.

Yes the rooms and the Novotel hotel itself is real good. Much better and cheaper than the Amari.
BUT !
You need to wait for a mini van to drive you the 300 m that separate the terminal and the hotel which is located the other side of the multi storey car park. Without luggage and if no rain it can be done but need some skill to avoid the still under construction areas.
You need to add the time of waiting for the mini van on the way in and out.

Anyone know if TG will use the Louis Tavern Dayrooms for their passengers with extended transit time in BKK by giving out vouchers? Or will there be another option? I hope TG will continue this service for transit passengers.

I had an 8 hour layover last week and went to the Novotel. The rate quoted was what I got, but had to work on getting it. Also, you have to add the tax at the hotel. I think I paid a total of 4,100 Baht. But it was worth it! Rooms were great, very relaxing. They have a pool also. You have to pay for internet, and I thought it was expensive!

When I enquired at the Tavern Dayrooms Sunday 15 October, staff informed me that not only was the website not ready, but they didn't have any brochures. They provided me the following contact info:
1. PHone: 06 3172211 -- this was actually a CELL PHONE number to reach the dayrooms
2. FAX (for reservations): 024019311
By the way, when I enquired at about 0700 15 October the rooms were fully booked.
As for the Novotel, I did manage to walk there 07 Oct from the terminal (nobody I asked could direct me to the shuttle van which, as it turns out, stops at terminal exit door #4) but only after crossing 2 or 3 roads, several lanes of traffic, a parking garage and a lawn. On my return on 14 Oct I took the shuttle van from the terminal.
Novotel staff is very courteous. Spa was quite a pleasant indulgence. My room had minor electrical problems both nights (one week apart) which in both cases were fixed in minutes by staff. I did have a leak in the bathroom shower one night which spread water onto the bathroom floor. Also, I could not figure out how to navigate the static TV channel displaying limited flight information. Overall, I would not hesitate to stay again at the Novotel.

I was just checking the prices at the Novotel for an upcoming trip and a couple of things.
They currently have two options which are good for transit passengers:
4 hours for 1,200 THB (a MUCH better deal than Louis Tavern), but daytime use only.
All day for 2,000 THB (again MUCH better than Louis Tavern), but I don't know what the hours are that this is available.
Those above rates, and the rates I quoted earlier are for October. If you come in November, which is the beginning of the high season for Thailand, all the rates at the Novotel go way up...
5,000 THB for the best unrestricted rate
2,200 THB for 4-hour daytime
4,500 THB for all day
All rates plus 7% tax and 10% service charge.

OK .. found these rates on a further search. :)
We arrive TG SYD-BKK at 11pm December 25, and leave for Hanoi at 7.50am so do not want to waste time leaving airport, doing immigration, and ALSO incurring 1000 THB Tax!
Anyone got any idea which terminal SYD flight arrives at, and which one Hanoi usually leaves from?
I'd be happy to paypal someone the dough if they are in the area before December 25, and could assist a TalkBoard member by pre-paying the room in cash or card for us.
At least we know we have a room locked in then, and can head right to it and catch some sleep and not waste hours. :)
I guess we can check bags thru from SYD-BKK-HAN ?

There's only one terminal in BKK, on your arrival you just take an escalator up to the departure floor - go to the transfer desk (if told to do so) and find out where the gate of your connecting flight is.
Checking bags thru should not be a problem as you're connecting to another THAI Airways International flight.
By the way, the aiport tax is still the same old B500 (very cheap compared to other airports, it's only like $12 cum'on). And do you really trust random strangers on the internet to be PayPalling them money? Careful m8.

I was thinking the same thing about the departure tax, but then saw "we" mentioned in the OP, so would assume that is two people so 1,000 Baht total. I think Andrewp was able to actually make a reservation via a travel agent, based on one of his earlier posts, so hopefully he can tell the OP how to do likewise. I asked at the Louis Tavern Dayrooms last week about making reservations or paying in advance and they said the problem still is that they don't have their "communications system" installed there. They expect everything to be complete by around the end of December and should then be able to take reservations.

My reservations were made by the concierge at my hotel in Phuket. They were only able to do it after I provided them with the mobile phone number posted here on FT. It apparently wasn't a big deal, but it definitely took a native Thai speaker since they had to call the mobile phone to request the res, fax a copy of my CC to some other part of the LT organization, and then call back later to get the confirmation.

To me it seems like a more time spending activity to book this place, than to just go through immigration and into the novotel, and back again. I guess they need a few months to sort this out.

One more detail on the LT dayrooms.
You are required to make a "key deposit" in cash which will be returned to you when you return the key. You can either post USD20 or THB500. No cash = no key = no room.
Overall I'm very happy with the dayrooms. Since it's nearly impossible to connect to/from the UA flights this is a very good and convenient option. It was nice to be able to sleep until 5:00AM, take a quick shower, and grab my BP at the transit desk... as opposed to getting up before 4:00AM, walking a mile inside the Novotel, waiting for the shuttle, waiting in line for the security BS before check-in, walking another mile to the lounge... etc...
Also, when checking in in HKT I had to beg the agent to stamp my BP as international (it was on a separate ticket from my UA flights). She insisted that there was no transit hotel and therefore couldn't leave me in the international terminal for more than 6 hours. She even made several calls and everyone told her that there was no transit hotel and to treat me as a domestic passenger. After some panicked begging she finally acquiesced and stamped my BP.

Would y'all feel safe leaving your luggage in one of these day rooms while you go out to the city? I don't know if there are other options for storing luggage and I'm a bit concerned as one of my bags is a carry-on laptop roller and there is no way to lock it. I figure that one of these rooms may be a better bet.

There are at least two left luggage counters at BKK. One of them is in the arrival hall, Level 2, between Gates A and B. The other is in the departure hall, Level 4, at the rear of the hall, I think somewhere around row P/Q if I recall correctly. The name is Chubb baggage services and they charge 100 Baht per day and they're open 24 hours. I think I'd feel safer leaving something there than in a dayroom.

Does bag have zippers that you could purchase a small lock in order to secure it? Or you could purchase a slightly larger bag that can be locked and put it inside that. If the laptop is really important to you, to the point that you were considering getting a dayroom (2000 baht) just to store it in, why not just hire a private car to take you wherever you're going around Bangkok and leave your laptop locked in the car. That would be the safest of all I'd think. Not sure what the going rate is these days for hiring a car/driver for the day, but would think 2000 baht would probably be sufficient.

The idiots who run the LT are synonymous with many things about Suva airport - just not with it.
To have taken 3 or 4 months since the airport opening to even get a website up is insane. Last I heard they had no phone or email working - only a cell phone they answer when they feel like it. At the outrageous rates they charge they should have personal conceriges meet you at your gate. :D
I asked TG to get us this place both before leaving SYD and when I arrived in BKK< and both times got told it was full. Instead they put us in a limo for a 20 minute breakneck speed ride to who-knows-where.
Appalling that someone did not have the brains to built a bigger place inside the airport and ensuring whomever did build one was actually ready to do business.
Suva airport brass (if they themselves are not sacked yet ;)) should force them to get their act together.

Glen,
When were you last there. I read somewhere (maybe earlier on thios thread) that they would be adding rooms in December. Does anyone know if that has happened?
Also, if I have a flight from CNX to BKK and BKK to NRT the next AM, will it be possible for me to get to these rooms from wherever the CNX-BKK (domestic?) flight arrives?
Thanks.

Evening of December 25 ... about a month back.
Wasted time at that alleged transfer desk who could not help.
Schlepped upstairs to the Biz/first "office" at far end of terminal. Nice little covered area. She booked me the hotel 20 minutes away and organised the Limo.
Then forgot to tell us there is no TG transport desk open in that zoo downstairs at 11pm.
We needed to find someone to assist who walked us for ever into the car park somewhere.
They should nuke the whole place IMHO.
Suva clearly opened many months ahead of what was needed to get the bugs out.
One more question on these rates: are there additional taxes/fees? Gotta stay under that Federal per diem (~144 for Bangkok).

If I arrive on a domestic flight into Suvarnaphumi late at night, and will take an internatoinal flight out early the next morning, will I be able to access the Louis Tavern dayroom for the overnight? I'm not sure how the new BKK airport is setup, some airports keep domestic passengers in a seperate area and you cant get into the secure area past immigration for int'l flights until 3 hours before your flight, in which case the answer woudl be no.

If you have your boarding pass for your int'l flight or are able to check in when you arrive, you can get to the international area.

Hey Fellow FT'ers - I have a similar problem.
My fiance and I are landing around midnight at BKK from an international flight (United Airlines) and are taking a 7:00am on Thai Air from BKK to Phuket the next morning. I figured by the time we deplane, go through customs, and get our luggage, that will be an hour or two. I don't know what we are going to do from that point because we would rather not pay for a room at the Novotel when we are going to have to be back in the airport in 4 hours or so. Any suggestions?
Does anyone know if what time we might be able to get into the Red Carpet Club? Can we still access it from the domestic side? Does the airport actually "close" or can we just check back in and hang out at the gate for the 4 hours?
Any help would be much appreciated. We are traveling a week from today.
