Trying to plan a trip to Rome this thanksgiving (11/22-11/26 give or take a day or so).
Can you folks here recommend where to stay (hotel recommendations and/or area) and what areas/hotel not to stay in.
We'll be 4 of us, with two teens (13/15 yrs).
Would like to be able to be somewhere convenient to both sights and transportation as I have no intention of renting a car in Rome.

Great hotel, cannot beat the view of St Peters. Excellent Concierge lounge. Trasportation to main tourist areas is included by the hotel.

I would suggest something more central, specifically around Piazza Navona or the Pantheon, so that you don't have to depend on transportation every time one of you wants to step out. The Del Senato is right by the Pantheon and has beautiful suites that might suit your needs: http://www.albergodelsenato.it/index.html The Santa Chiara also has quad rooms and suites: www.albergosantachiara.com You also may want to consider renting an apartment to give you more space and a fridge for snacks and breakfast.
Have a great time in bella Roma!

My wife and I returned Saturday from a trip to Rome (and also Amalfi and Paris). While staying in Rome we stayed in an apartment we found at:

The apartment worked out great! As there were 6 of us staying, it was much cheaper than renting 3 separate hotel rooms. The reservation process was very straight forward and forthright. The only draw backs were that there wasn't a hotel person to help you with the random question you might have (that's what good guide books are for). Also, we had to be quick in the bathroom since we were sharing only one. Our apartment was located just to the west of the Piazza Navonna. This was a great area.
