Does anyone know how to nominate someone to silver class as a cp?
I see it listed as a benifit, but don't see a link to do it.
thanks

Make sure you have the other person's DM #, then just call the CP reservations line. I did it for 1 person 3 weeks ago, and the next day they were changed from dirt to Silver. There is no need for paperwork anymore.

Loosely related, so I won't start a new thread if it's okay...
Is there an expectation from US that the person you nominate to SP will actually fly enough to legitimately earn it (for the next year)? Or could I just nominate a friend/family member who will realistically only fly four or five times a year for ~12-18,000 miles?
In other words, is there any downside to nominating someone who would clearly never qualify normally, or is that part of the point of this benefit? I assume we'll continue to receive this benefit for the foreseeable future?
Thanks in advance for your responses!

When you nominate someone to Silver as a CP, it is good until February 28 of the following year. Their amount of flying is not a material issue. I used to nominate 2 to 5 people per year (2 to 4 years ago) and some of them flew very little, but they appreciated the expedited security lines and pre-boarding as well as near 100% upgrades. unfortunately, Silvers now get upgraded between 5 and 20% of the time in our company so that benefit is not much of a benefit. Earlier this week I was on an HP 757. 7 CP's got upgraded and 2 Plt's got upgraded, with 14 F seats. There were 5 Plt's, 11 Gold's and 17 Silver's in coach, without upgrades. The FA showed me the list.

i was starting to think i was missing a step... do you all call in on the day of your window (we all know the auto upgrade via email is shotty at best)??
next week i hit platinum - hoping that will make a difference.

I have to say as a CP I am upgraded well :)
Well, I upgraded my SO (wife) and it was simple.. they actually had me fax it in, but it changed in like 4 days. Very nice and easy!

Just a friendly bump. Today I received a letter from the DMSC that says:
As a Chairmans Preferred member you are invited to nominate a person of your choice to Silver Preferred status. Just complete the information requested below and fax to the above number, or mail to the address above.
I requalified for CP in August and recently hit 125K EQMs. Does anyone know if this is for making CP and I should expect another Silver nomination for 125K and again for 150K?

Yes. I confirmed this with the CP Desk last week. But since the nomination forms are sent by a third party vendor and may require 6 - 8 weeks for delivery, you might expedite the process by faxing a request to the CP Desk. The DM service center supervisors and program execs are in the same building with the CP staff and can process the nominations manually -- if you ask them nicely.

Thanks for the info. I'm not in a rush. I did my first nomination today (my 91 year old grandmother).

Ask again in March 2007. Since you're already a SP, nominating you now makes no sense as the complimentary status upgrade expires at the end of this program year, on February 28, 2007.

Really? I would hope that since I requalified for CP and wasn't offered the nomination until now that the status would last until 2/28/08 similar to the way it is when you achieve status mid-year. Otherwise the nomination is akin to "trial elite" and frankly not worth it.

The forms were supposedly sent by a third-party vendor in May of 2006. I never got mine either. Regardless, the CP desk did say the silver status would expire end of Feb '07.

True and True.
I'm CP and my wife is GP, sometime if we fly with kids, I'll call Chairman Desk and get all 4 of us upgraded.... but it helps if you do call in rather then wait for automatic..

Wanted to bump this thread. As mentioned earlier in this thread I nominated my grandmother to Silver. My grandmother's vision isn't so good, so I asked my mother to check her Silver card and it shows valid until 2/29/08, so status is good for all of 2007.
Grandma flew up yesterday from FLL for Thanksgiving. I prepped her ahead of time to ask at the gate about an upgrade. She did and was told "it doesn't look good." She sat down to wait for boarding and was paged to the podium and given an F seat on the 757 no less. ^

That's very sweet.
As for the 2008 exp date, it's interesting that the pal of mine who I nominated at about the same time you nominated your grandmother only qualified thru 2/2007. I'm not surprised as there are so many different deals out there and not much is consistent. Nevertheless, this is great for her! And my buddy just scored 4 bumps in a row to Envoy for TA travel in recent days.

That is truly AWESOME, dukeman. ^
Given the chatter on here about SP upgrade likelihood, I'd say she lucked out. Either that, or the GA was just too smitten by a cute 91-year-old asking for an upgrade.
Congrats to her and kudos to you for being so generous.
