I've still been calling in my reservations to CP (or booking via UA) to avoid the US website and a Shares PNR. My upgrades have been hitting 100%, but just not at the window.
I'm about to book a few +companion itineraries, and was wondering if website (Shares) bookings anecdotally was leading to smoother sailing with companion auto-upgrades, compared to CP-desk phone bookings.
Any experiences appreciated. Thanks.

My assistants still book all my travel thru the CP desk, and all my companion upgrades have been clearing at the window. That happened as recently as Wednesday last week. In fact, on several of my US flights this past month there have been a few empty seats in F.

I decided to dip my feet in the water with my first (new) US.com website booking, and compound that experiment with a +companion. I did call CP to inquire "if everything looked ok". The Angel was quick to say "not exactly" because, in her words, having 2 DM#s in one PNR, where only one DM# is elite, confuses the auto-thingie. Her advice was to use the CP for US metal, website for HP metal rule of thumb. Incidentally I had applied that rule myself till this experiment. Further, the experiment may be spoiled b/c she may have augmented my booking in a positive way. We'll see in 2wks.
