And there's a few others that can be seen here:

What would I need to ask for to get any of these?

or the foot bath here:
http://sheepcote.jp/rum/hotel/ygic2-p03.htm

And can anybody shed some light on the contraption that looks like some kind of kettle? (heavy ornate iron thing)

I'll have bog standard ambassador status and doubt very much that I'll be getting into the club level - which is where this room seems to be.

Gadget #1 is an "ion steamer", apparently for your face. Seems like you steam your face, and then use that wand thing to cool it down, and it shuts your pores up nicely. Looks like several shots of it from varying angles, so I think that's the only special gadget, but there are lots of bath salts and so on. Seems the steamer is available on the "ladies' floor" of the hotel.

The foot bath came with the "Asian Taste Twin Room", and was also in a suite (sez the text here).

The kettle-y thing is a grotesquely ornate ice bucket. :p

How about that elephant lamp? Don't you want one of those?

Hi LapLap,
The toilet thingy is called a Washlet. Very popular in Japan-- water jet cleans your backside.
By the way, we have one in my office.

There is rarely a day when I'm in Japan that I don't offer up joyous and heartfelt prayers of thanks to Mr. Toto! :)

Now you can see why I'm interested in the gadgets, it might take my mind off the worst of the decor - like the lamp. That's an icebox??? I had romantic notions that you boiled water in it and could have your own relaxing macha tea ceremony.

So it IS a lady who does this website - I somehow always thought it was. It's a fabulous site. (I think she gets rooms through bidding and other offers... staying at luxury hotels seems to be a real hobby for her.)

Hmmm
Project X where they choose a different achievement every week.
The guys from the Toto team were brought on - they were in their seventies and they recounted how they brought the washlet into being.

A generation who'd been introduced to the life changing washing machine. Their brief was to come up something that would be just as revolutionary and life enhancing. The idea was born.

They experimented with water pressure. Realising that cold water wasn't so effective at removing 'klingons', they discovered how tolerant our anii are to hot water. But more work was needed, trajectory, angle, pressure, temperature, it was time to try it out. They needed 100 volunteers!

They got around 30...

These brave and selfless men washed their nether bits red raw in their quest for perfection.

Finally it was time to calibrate the litte wand controlled by the pink button.

Not one female from Toto came forward.

In desperation, the project leader came home, and on his hands and knees, his head pressed against the floor, begged his wife to help him out.

So yes, I am also grateful to 'Mrs' Toto, and the many Mr Totos who brought this boon to modern living to our bathrooms.

Now being introduced are gadgets that filtrate, condition, ionise and deodorise the air in toilets. I'd be happy with a gadget that gets doro out of walking shoes and wellies.

Maybe... but I wouldn't want it protruding from my toilet seat.

My cat, Smidgen, because of his ample and furry rump, has some issues with dingleberries. He also likes water, so perhaps a washlet would be right up his alley, so to speak.

A washlet with the spray on full throttle and the aftermath of a hot hot curry does not a good combination make.. Just a heads up for new users. :D

I don't know... might make a great extra button for when the you've got something really 'duro' (http://www.wordreference.com/es/en/translation.asp?spen=duro) there.

The right contraption, perhaps fitted near the cat flap, could get your boots cleaned and relieve the furry family guest from unwanted hangers on.

The ion-steamer is the dog's bollox (and I don't use that phrase lightly) - it's fantastic - my gf bought one and I use it all the time- FANTASTIC ^ ^ ^ ^

Also an honorable mention goes to the black-head sucker thing that is usually displayed in the stores right next to it.

Oh you are such a breath of ionised freshair!

Welcome to the forum, websterlewis!

Any man who'll admit to such things is a REAL man in my book!
