I’m looking for a cool and trendy (rather than traditional) restaurant for a birthday celebration in Boston. Something on a par with Zuma or Hakkasan in London or Kittichai in New York. Any ideas? :)

The Blue Room (http://www.theblueroom.net/main.html) in Kendall Square wouldn't be a bad choice. Asian-influenced, top-quality, terrific-looking room, and a private dining area if your party is big enough.

Hmm, would Clio count? I'm not sure I'd call it fusion, but some dishes have an asian influence. It's one of my favourites in the city. http://www.cliorestaurant.com/
For a more traditiona Asian fusion (if that's not an oxymoron), people seem to really like Blue Ginger, but it's out in the burbs. You didn't mention location, but I assume you'd like something downtown. If you are more open to other kinds of cuisine, you will find lots of fun downtown options.

Will be staying at Hotel XV Beacon. Dinner will be for 2. Clio looks good. Any other ideas?

Whatever you do, don't eat at the Federalist (their restaurant). Search my posts for my opinion on this restaurant.

How old is your experience? The Federalist has been taken over by a very reputable restaurant group (they own Mistral, one of my favorite Boston restaurants).

My review is here (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=433204&page=1&pp=40) Post #40.
Mistral is vastly superior.

I definitely agree. With No. 9 Park (my personal favorite in Boston, though Mistral is also up there) around the corner it will be a long time before I bother going back to The Federalist.

Let's just give them a little time.
