The only time i've ever been to Hawaii is when i was about 5, so i need a little refreshing!
The next time im in Vegas (probably november) im thinking of heading over to Hawaii or Cabo (or both if vegas goes well!).
Now, im wondering several things: who is everyones general favourite airline to get there, which island has the best nightlife, and what sort of cheapish accomodation i'd be looking at?
And given that i'll be at least a little interested in having a look around how many days do i really need out there?

From LAS, if you want a non-stop, you'll need to fly Hawaiian or ATA. Those are the only two carriers (non-charter) that operate. You can also elect to fly Delta through SLC, United via LAX/SFO, or AA via LAX/SFO. And, you can also connect via LAX/SFO to NW/CO if you so choose.
"Favorite airline" is a very subjective term. Are you looking for a decent first class product? An airline that still offers food in Y? etc.
If you're looking for nightlife, stay on Oahu, particularly Waikiki. And, you'll be able to find accomodations on the cheaper side in Waikiki hotels (e.g., roughly $100-$200).
It's really hard to say how many days you'll need without knowing exactly what your interests are. There is a lot to do in Hawaii. I'd suggest that you perhaps take a look at the FAQ provided on the top of the Hawaii forum and see what interests you. Spending all day the beach? Going to the historical museums (e.g., Arizona Memorial)? Hiking? etc.

Hi,
On this subject, are there any special fares inter-island that are still available?
Do mistake/special fares HNL to LAS that come up sometimes, even less than the one above?
I guess if they did it would be a hot topic here ;)
Cheers ^

Hi,

If you visit www.hawaiianair.com , www.alohaair.com and www.iflygo.com , you'll see that all three are having a $29 o/w special for interisland flights.
Book quickly, since priving is based on availability.

Plan on budgeting $69 - $100, all in., for r/t, i/i airfare. That America West flight LAS-OGG is the one most popular with Vegans!

Thanks again Slippahs, as this info is buried in some threads and I had believed the price-war specials were over. Mesa/go! specials (indefinite $39) seem great but I can purchase up to 6mths out, so it's not possible. HA is also $39 for May, which is good.
I'll try the other HA & Aloha. The specials seem to be on until just before peak season, so I hope to be able to arrange low-season (May) ticketing if possible.
The savings here will doubtless go to the hotel bills instead!

im not much of a beach person, but i like one there for some reason...
I suppose on this trip im really on the 80% nightlife, 20% other stuff split, i dont really mind changing and taking UA, unless something else is really cheap, or direct. You're right about the subjectivity of the airline, and i guess on this one, bottom line is the bottom line....
Though vegas is never work, i'll be hustling the tables there to pay for the trip so wont want to strain my brain cell too hard once i get there, general sight seeing, and touristy stuff (not intellectual but wow look at that stuff...) is what i'll want to be filling the space between drinks with...

It's probably a big time waste to fly HNL-LAS RTN (a MAJOR diversion from a HI holiday), but it would be a blast! If I could find a great offer with UA I'd be tempted ;)
I should really just pop across to the Star City casino (just 5mins walk from Darling Harbour) instead of fly to LAS - but it isn't anything like LAS  ;)

Don't forget IslandAir too. Their prices have significantly decreased on many routes in the last year and are sometimes less than AQ/HA.

Are you sure you really want to come all the way to Hawaii then? I don't think the night life here could possibly be worth it, and if you aren't a beach person.... Well I'm certainly not trying to discourage your visiting, but am just wondering if Hawaii wouldn't be better saved for a trip when your interests are aligned differently.

I will agree with jtkauai on this one. If you perhaps more of a 50/50 split, it'd probably be worth it. But, there are other places known for their nightlife and beaches that might better suit your tastes?

Sounds like LAX, SNA or SAN might do the trick....and lots less flying time = more time at tables or night clubs. :D
