On a recent HKG-DOH flight there were only 4 pax in J class...very comfortable for me, but probably not very profitable for QR...

Had 4 flights between DOH and HKG in the last 8 weeks and the loads have varied:

On one flight, the load was only 6 passengers incl. me, on others (mainly out of HKG), the J class was almost fully booked. Also, one flight had an unbelievable number of 18 passengers being upgraed from Y to J because of overbooking.

According to the HKG gate manager, the flights are doing pretty good in Y (>80% in general) but not too good in J. Still, if they have an alomst full house in the back, I think it is still profitable (btw, J has only 24 seats currently in the A330-200).

Sorry Berlinflyer,

Just wonder if you can give me some ideas about meal services on the HKG-DOH flights... no need for the menu transcript...

Just wonder if QR serves two meals -- on the midnight flight, I suppose a snack and a breakfast, and then on the earlier 7:45pm flight, I suppose a dinner and a snack prior to arrival.

Thanks,
Carfield

yes, they offer 2 meals on HKGDOH, so as vv. in fact, they offer a la cart service on this route.. so you can order whenever you want.

As mentioned, they offer the "new" menue service, where you can order anytime and eat anytime. Because the flight out of DOH departs around 1am, only a few snack selections are offered ("snack" at QR means more than normal food selections on many other carriers) incl. caviar and champagne.

For breakfast you can choose from the arabic version, chinese breakfast option or western style incl. eggs (omelette) and sausagge. Also, a very nice selction of fresh fruit comes with breakfast.

Overall, what I have been told from a friendly FA last time, the DOH-HKG-DOH flights seem to be the flagship route for the new menue service with QR. Really outstanding.... :)

Woww...that's impressive, man!
QR didnt do much advertising in HKG, and their OTP is really well, that makes me think their loading is really low.

or do they also depends on cargo?

any ideas if QR will extend another leg from HKG?
(ie HKG to Manila, Japan, Taiwan, Korea)

Many thanks!

though not on TV but QR is quite aggressive in promoting with bus ad, radio ad, airport express station ad and sponsorship.. they had they flight launch party at four season hotels which also help promote to the trade.

more importantly, $ do speak.. their price to europe via DOH is almost he lowest in HK among all 1 stop/2 stops carriers.

all added up a good economy ex-HK...
