Qatar Airways Statement On Incident

Following an incident onboard Qatar Airways flight 401 from Amman to Doha today (August 10), a male passenger was restrained by passengers and cabin crew before the aircraft returned safely to the Jordanian capital.

The incident happened shortly after take off from Queen Alia International Airport in Amman early this evening (August 10).

A passenger, an Eritrean national aged 22, tried to force his way into the cockpit of the Airbus A300-600 aircraft which was carrying 12 crew members and 267 passengers.

A Qatar Airways male cabin crew member overpowered him and with the assistance of three passengers restrained the man before the aircraft landed safely in Amman. The man was handed over to the Jordanian police authorities on arrival in Amman.

Flight QR 401 had departed Queen Alia International Airport at 1633 hrs (Jordanian local time) and was scheduled to arrive at Doha International Airport at 1905 hrs (Qatar local time).

No one was hurt in the incident. Qatar Airways regards the safety of its passengers and crew with the utmost importance. Full security checks are being carried out by Qatar Airways, which is working closely with local police and airport authorities in Amman. Flight QR401 is expected to depart for Doha later this evening once the airline and officials in Amman are fully satisfied the aircraft is safe to take-off.
