I did a search, but did not find what I was looking for. I read in USAToday.com that US Airways is buying 25 new planes from Embraer. The 106 seat Embraer 190. The first of these planes will be available in December. Does anyone know if this will be all coach configuration like the 170? Thanks.

Never mind. I looked on the Embraer website and the 106 seat version is an all coach configuration. I was hoping they might have first class seats.

I thought they're supposed to have a small F cabin? Or did they suddenly change their mind??

Last we heard it was 99 seats - 11F, 88Y. I hope that hasn't changed.

I would tend to agree with Murphy on the 11/88 for a total of 99 seats, only because they would only have to put 2 f/a's on it. Anything over 100 seats will require a 3rd f/a.

I also heard (or read) somewhere that at 99 seats they can use "commuter" slots at DCA instead of "mainline" slots for greater flexibility. If true, it gives us some insights into how popular a destination DCA will be for the E190

They best not have reneged AGAIN on putting F seats into the RJs. This has happened before, as many of you recall.... which is why we don't have F seats on the new E70s.

:( :td:

Until I hear differently, however, I'm going to assume that the plan is still to have F11 on the new E90s.

Hi!

Sorry if asking stupid questions, but I'm quite new here :)

Does anyone know if the seats in Y in the Boeing 767 of US Airways do already have a private entertainment system? I'll have this plane on a MUC-PHL flight in September and as far as I know only the A330 got the new seats.

Btw, have never flown US, is it recommended or total disaster? :p

Greets!

I flew a 767 a few weeks ago and it still had the old seats (no seat-back entertainment system like the 330 - just the big movie screen). US is USUALLY fine as far as I'm concerned - not great, but not horrible.

The true FF's can flesh it out, but I suspect that if you approach it as just another domestic US F/C flight you might be pleasantly surprised (at least a little). If you expect the full state of the art international business or F/C experience, you'll be extremely disappointed.

Are you in coach or business? There's zero chance business will be overbooked, but they do oversell coach. Are you familiar with the availability tools? If you go to http://flyaow.com/classtandt.htm and plug in your cities and dates, you can see approximately how full the flight is. The output looks like this:
F1 P0 A0 Y9 U9 B9 W9 M9 H9 S9 K9 Q9 L9 V9 T9 N0
The Y number is the important one - that's the number of full coach seats available for sale. If it's 0, the flight is overbooked. Note that it's capped at 9, so Y9 means 9 or more seats for sale. Also, that Y number is the number of seats they're selling, not actual seats on the plane. A flight can be Y9 and be overbooked. The letters to the right of Y are the discounted coach fares. As they become 0, the flight is filling up. Also, note that just because it's overbooked doesn't mean anyone will be bumped. Airlines spend a lot of money trying to figure out how many seats they can sell without bumping anyone, and they're pretty good at it. There's a reason they all do this.

The 767 interiors are pretty tired (they're scheduled for an upgrade), but it's certainly survivable.

If you are flying to Munich in September, there is a very good chance you will be on the A330. They put the 330 on MUC in September every year because of Oktoberfest. Hope you're on it, that entertainment system is great in Envoy and economy.

Unfortunately I'm flying coach. But sometimes they upgrade you to business if it's overbooked :D
And really thanks a lot, I haven't heard of that tool. But that is extremely helpful, I think I will use it a lot in future! ^ Thank you very much again!

I thought already that the 767 is a bit "tired" already, but as it is a daytime-flight it shouldn't be that annoying :)

There will be the A330 TO Munich, true, and I'm very curious about it already

Is the seat pitch actually ok in US coach? I read at Seatguru that it's between 33" and 34". That matters most to me as I had absolutely terrible experiences with LH on longhaul-flights and therefore try to avoiding it whenever possible

A GA in CLT said he can't wait for the new 190s and mentioned that they will definitely have FC!

US is definitely getting the E190 with 99 seats in a 11F/88Y config to save money on paying a 3rd F/A.

The A330 is scheduled PHL-MUC-PHL from 9/2 until 10/8, so you'll probably luck out. It's a real treat because a.) best coach pitch across the Atlantic from ANY carrier(not including economy Plus or Premium Economy that some carriers offer), b.) a/v on demand system at every seat.

Don't hold your breath. Word now is 767 interior upgrades won't be done until Q3 2007. As well as no paint job for 737, since most of them are approaching scrap-metal value. A320 will get ETOPS by end of year.

Actually a paint line for the 737 started this month. Where have you heard they will not be painted?

Don't let any negative impressions of the US 767 deter you from future travel on that aircraft. The entire 767 fleet is scheduled for refurbishment (both Economy and Envoy), including lie flat beds/IFE in Envoy, starting late next year. As indicated earlier, you may luck out on this trip and get a 333 Octoberfest flight.

In a US weekly news letter, I remember there was an E-190 model in PHX for the big wigs and media to look at, and it did have a first class section. It looked similar to UAL's E-170 config.

Interesting. Heard the exact opposite from a maintenance director in CLT when I was there for a meeting. The reason was that they wanted to get the 320's painted first, then any younger 73's. But then again, this was the same place six months ago I saw 2 DH8-400s on their way back from PHX and getting shown, heard there were solid orders for 15!

Good to hear they are painting the 737's...however, as I've seen the hour count on some of these airframes...I'm questioning why. Then again, questioning why in this business rarely yields logic.

Do you know who is doing the paint?

flyingcat
Aug 30, 06, 11:32 am
Don't know who is doing the painting but the priority is the HP planes as they still say America West on the side. West 737s will be done first then the east 737s. They will eventually get done and despite what everyone thinks there is no way all the 737s will be gone.

It is true some will go away due to lease issues but the pilots seem to think this means that the entire fleet is under the axe which is completely untrue.
