I had a very pleasant surprise this morning at O'Hare: my first operational upgrade, and on United to boot. Sure, it was only to "ExPlus" F on a SkyWest CRJ-700 and it was only a 90-minute ORD-BTV hop, but it was much appreciated after an overnight flight from SFO. There's also something nifty about hearing your name called, seeing the gold BP behind the counter... and the moment of realization that you just won the equivalent of airline Lotto :D

ExPlus is an extremely impressive product - the seats are quite comfortable and the snack box offered puts the US snack basket to shame. There's even a glass pot of Swiss jelly!

Sounds great...I have a CRJ-700 UA ExPlus flight in November. I am already in E+ so maybe I'll be so lucky...my flight will be 2.5 hours...

Good to know! I'm taking my first ExPlus flights next month, already booked in FC. I took a longer connection just to try it out--and to avoid the non-FC express flight!

Unfortunately for my stint, I have 4 segments (roundtrip). I have to drive to ROA from TRI, fly to ORD on a regular RJ, ORD to SAT on a 737-500, then back on the CRJ-700, another RJ, and my drive back. But the price of $800 less than US from TRI will make the drive worthwhile. I hope it will be a good E+ experience on the ORD-SAT-ORD part, at least.
