im arriving on a flight at around 11 PM from KL on Japan Airlines and am connecting to the UA flight to Narita at 7 the next morning. what should i do about baggage? can my bags check all the way through though they are on different confirmation #'s. i want to stay in the transit hotel..but can't get bags. i was thinking that i could pick up my bags the next morning...but wasn't sure if the lost and found office was open 24 hours..and im not sure if they actually lock the bags in a storage place or if they are out in the open for "intruders"/stealing purposes.. any ideas?
thanks

I don't know whether you can check-in your bags for your UA flight - perhaps somebody else can answer that.

The left baggage service is 24 hours and they look after your bags, i.e. they're not left in the open!

Welcome to FT! You can call JAL and ask if they have a baggage handling agreement with UAL. If they do ask about any restrictions and make sure you let the person checking in your bags at the airport know the bags final destination. They will want to see the UA flight info. I would suggest anything you need for the transit hotel you keep in your carry on. Depending on the number of bags you have you may be able to check one all the way through and pick up one at Changi and recheck it in the morning. It would be best to ask at the airport unless anyone else here can comment.

Thanks for the info. This left luggage service, is it pretty reliable? Would it be safe to leave valuables (e.g., a laptop bag w/laptop) with them?

C'mon, this is Singapore. If anything were to go missing, Lee Kuan Yew will personally apologize to your ancestors and hand you a rattan cane so you can whip the evildoers into shape.

That said, I'm not sure they'll allow you to leave a laptop or similar valuables -- might be worth giving 'em a call to check ahead of time.

I have left multiple bags with them on multiple occasions and my experience has been that the left luggage service at Changi is both reliable and safe.
