Hi all,

I know, there's plenty of hotel threads here but I'm sure some of you have a suggestion for me.

Would need a hotel, just for one night, that has a nice pool or recreation area. I'll be there and don't really have to work but a rather unnecessary stopover. Rate should be below US$250...

Any suggestions?

Gracias!

i don't believe there are many nice hotels in Singapore that DON'T have a nice pool.

As a caution, considering how hot it is in Singapore, my guess is you'll quickly figure out that won't want to spend much time in a pool. there are also other things to do, including high tea at raffles.

If you would be happier in a pure resort, why not check out Sentosa Island.

Never been there myself, but it should have all you need if you don't actually need to be in the city itself for a few days.

The swimming poool at the Shangri-La is quite nice.

Shangrila is my favorite but others that I have been (recently, eg last 2 yrs) to include:

Traders (shangrila hotel but 3+ star version)
Mandarin Oriental
Grand Hyatt
Ritz

Re Sentosa Island suggestion, beware it is extremely hot there as very open space. I was there like 15 yrs ago and not at all impressed but it may have changed (water not that clean due to proximity to harbor).

I just spent some time at the pools at the Ritz and the Grand Hyatt and concur that they are definitely good places to lounge. I prefer the Ritz, the pool is just a bit larger and seems more open because there are fewer buildings around it (and service is far better). I think you'll spend as much time in the pool as lounging around it, as others say it's very hot. But it's never too hot if you have water around in my opinion...
Another thought, probably not worthwhile if you have a short stopover, but if you had 24 hours you can also take the high speed ferry to Bintan Island Indonesia (about 45 minutes) and hang out on some of the nicest beaches I've seen. Very clear water and powder soft sand. There are several good hotels in the $250 range (I think the Banyan Tree is about $300). The ferry terminal is conveniently located near the airport.

There is also an existing SIN pool thread, search for "pool" yielded this thread: http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=526832&highlight=pool

Hey pilatusguy, are there any other factors that need to be taken into account when choosing your hotel besides the pool? Singapore hotels in general have relatively good recreation areas, but if there are other factors that need to be taken into consideration, do let us know so that we can give more specific hotel suggestions! :)
