I think China will start moving away from the fake business as its becoming
more and more easy to make legitimate money. Seems like XY market had a lot
of cheap junk but the North Face jackets were very good quality and didn't fall apart. It was funny to see the foreign passengers in the check in line at Pudong airport wearing their fake North Face stuff.

What did you bring back from your trip to China? Tea, Jade, Silk.

Well ah...more like Prada, LV, Rolex :D

Glad I picked up my bootleg DVD of War of the Worlds before it closed. Too bad the only language it was in was Russian. All in all a real experience--and one thyat I am sure will simply move underground.

Actually it closed due to a $450 million offer for the land - although government claims Intellectual property rights as the reason - some shops are relocating to the Longhua area.

I don't advocate buying fake products but I understand the
vendors at XY market (legitimate ones included) moved now
to Qipu Market as they finished construction on the new buildings
in anticipation of the closing of XY market.

A few years ago I went to Qipu market and the intersection
outside the market I think I saw about 10,000 people in one
intersection. It kind of looks like Times Square on NY's eve
but every weekend of the year.
