I need to find the best way to get from Venice to Sorrento. It looks like the train will be at least 10-12 hours. Would flying Alitalia Venice - Naples, then train Naples to Sorrento? It looks like airfars can be had for about $65us.
Do any other airlines fly Venice to Naples/Sorrento?

what about flying to naples then renting a car and driving.. Naples to sorrento directly is easy, but naples to sorrento along amalfi coast is incredible. How were you planning on getting to Positano (other post) ?
You can check AlpiEagles. They fly from Venice to various points within Italy at discounted rates.
AlpiEagles is www.alpieagles.com

Ryanair flies from Treviso (very short bus ride from Venice) to Ciampino (Rome) for very little money. From Rome, take the train to Naples and connect to the Vesuviana local train.
Looking at one wayfares a month from now at the Ryanair website indicates a fare of 20.84 euros including all taxes.

That's how we are going next month. Flying from VCE to NAP, then train (or we may try the hydrofoils) to Sorrento.
Alitalia's flights are code share with AlpiEagles, and I could not find another airline out of VCE.
Here's a previous thread with some more info,

According to the Italian railroad site, the trip is 6.5 hours to Naples. You take a local suburban train from Naples to Sorrento. These trains run every 10 minutes or so. IIRC, Sorrento is only a few minutes from Naples by train.
