I'm confused by the seat map on us.com when choosing my first class seats. Can anyone tell me what the configuration is (i.e. does the aisle split the two seats in each row)?

Welcome to FT! 757 has 2 rows of First Class or 8 seats. 2x2.... If available take 1A and 1C, or 2A and 2C. At least nobody will recline into you. Row 2 is inferior.

On the 757 there really are only six FC seats available. You forget 2B and 2c are for the air marshalls.

Flew PHL to PIT recently and was first on board. Guess what..two sitting in 2B and 2C...gee I wonder if they were air marshalls. Chatted the one next to me. Let it drop plane was continuing from PIT to LAs with same crew under different flight number--not common knowledge even for us CPs, but just after landing, the FA announced everyone had to get off, even if they were connecting on the same flight. :D

Well, my significant other and I have been promoted to air marshals! We had seats 2A and 2C from CUN to PHL a few weeks ago!

Now that I look at the seat map after your posts, I get it! The cockpit would be on the left of the pop-up window, not at the top! Boy do I feel stupid. Still getting used to the new website. Thanks again everybody!

a while back there was some talk that us might re-re-configure their 757 f cabins to include more seats. some thought they'd have to do it to conform to some kind of star-alliance-wide standard, some thought they were going to do it for some other reason(s).

does anyone in the know have any insight into whether or not this is still on the table with us?

US putting more F seats on an aircraft? You've got to be kidding.

At the rate we're going, the Sandcastle's gonna do a Ted, pull all the F out and call the 757 fleet "Ays" :D

Two points. First, I agree that Row 2 on the 757 stinks --- last for meal choice (on meal flights) and you have both (i) people reclining back on you and (ii) a somewhat limited recline yourself because you're also in the last row of the cabin. With that said, I always prefer 1A (when it's not set aside for crew rest) or 1C on the 757.

Second, you're absolutely right: Seats 2C and 2D are ALWAYS blocked off on the seat map on EVERY 757! I remember they only used to block those two seats (I had long assumed they were doing so for air marshals) on certain 757 flights --- now, no matter how short CLT-PHL or how long PHL-AUA, 2C and 2D are constantly blocked.

This is frustrating for any number of reasons. First, on flights like PHL-AUA, it only leaves one possible combination of seats for people traveling together to sit in (1D, 1F) since 1A is crew rest. When my wife, parents and I flew to AUA last year, it was a real pain having to switch seats with people to be able to sit together (and we were all paid F on "A" fares) as we were unable to confirm 2 sets of 2 seats together in advance. Second, why on earth would they plan to have 25% of their entire "premium cabin" reserved for non-revenue air marshals on every flight. Good grief, elites already dread their upgrade chances on the 757, a situation only made that much worse by 25% of the entire cabin being "reserved." Third, they WILL continue to see all 8 seats in the cabin even though they WILL NOT give you a seat assignment in 2C or 2D before the airport. When looking to purchase tickets a few months ago, there were 3-F left for sale, but only 1-F seat assignment available. So, I called and was going to pay for 1 "A" fare and 1 full "F" fare ticket (only 1 "A" left in inventory) only to be told that they would only give me one seat assignment in advance and that I would have to get the other seat assignment "at the gate." The representative even called IM and got the same response, that they cannot assign 2C or 2D in advance of the airport, even for full "F" revenue tickets; Result = I ended up NOT purchasing two paid F tickets on US because I didn't want to get downgraded or re-routed on the day of departure due to no seat assignments being available ---- brilliant US!

I heard the same thing from a friend who is a US F/A a while back. I was told that the *A was pissed and that didn't conform to their standards and that US was going to put more seats back in FC.

Here's the closest thing to "official" as there is till reconfigured planes start appearing at the gate - from the weekly intracompany newsletter:

Q. I'm currently a West flight attendant and was wondering if there are any plans to make the configuration of our East and West planes similar. I know from working on the East side that the Airbus bulkheads are much different and the galleys are, too. That’s without mentioning the number of seats on each aircraft type. In addition, the B757 and B737 are all configured differently. Are there any plans to match things up before we begin working on each other's metal next year?

A. Beginning this fall the East A319s and A320s will be converted to match the seating configurations and pitch of the West fleet. There still will still be some differences due to a few monuments that are very expensive to move. But the number of first class and coach seats will be the same. We also are considering reducing the number of first class seats on the A321 form 26 to 16, which is more consistent with the number of paying first class customers on board. If we move forward with this, the A321 conversion will happen early next year. Currently, we have no plans to convert the B757s to a common configuration (the West planes are largely going to be on Hawaii routes). Changes to the B737 will depend on the future of the type in the fleet.

Very funny! :) What does US do with all of the F seats from the 757 and soon-to-be-removed seats from the A321, anyway? The gate areas in PHL could use an update -- maybe replace some of the worn and torn seats there then start a program called "Sit First" where they promise them to elites then sell them to vacationers for $50 instead!

If the Star Alliance was ticked off at US - they'd also need to be ticked off at BMI who manages to operate aircraft in an all coach configuration on mainline flights (and then some aircraft in a mixed business/coach configuration). Plus, they'd need to be ticked at UA for Ted. So, I doubt Star is really concerned about the issue. We are, but as noted above, US isn't going to add seats to the East 757s.

In flight movies suck anyway and the TV screens are pretty crappy even if you have a good angle. Get a DVD player amd drink heavily. That's my plan.
