I'm trying to use a Customer Service voucher for $100 which I have to exchange at the airport. I found a nice fare of $208 to MIA/FLL on the web (also on ITAsoftware) for Sept 8-11 and I called to put it on hold. The CP agent stated that the fare was $231. I asked if the outbound was in V class like ITA and she said it was in "W" class.

If there now a 10% discount for web bookings? And if so, why is ITA Software showing the fare as well?

Ahhh...The new US Airways....what a breath of fresh air.....

Not aware of an online discount, only a $5 booking fee if not booked online.

But here is my experience today with a difference in fare. I tried to book a trip for 2 for July today from HVN-HHH with a companion ticket. Found an online fare of $478 on the USair website; however, the agent on the phone could not find anything better than $586. I tried again, still the same fare, but cannot book it because I need the companion ticket booking.

$108 more!! Thats ridiculous. I never used to have this problem before the merger. Wow, US Airways must really want you to use their website.

Never had this either. Expected to kust pay $5 per ticket more due to booking by phone. Currently the cheaper web fare is gone and up to $584.30, so only 1.70 less. However, I do not understand why for at least three full hours the website continued to give the lower fare and the agents did not see that fare. I have time until tomorrow to keep looking for a cheaper fare, otherwise I'm stuck with this. Not happy

This was very common on the old HP site. While not always the case, there were many times when the cheapest fares could only be purchased online.

There's a possibility that the reason you no longer see the fare on the website is because you were checking frequently in a short period of time. I've had it happen often on the old website, that just by searching for and selecting flights repeatedly, the inventory is temporarily artificially depleted. Give it a little time (hour or so) and try the website again.

Doesn't explain why the agents don't see the lower fare...I guess they're loading more Web Only fares...

Perhaps the fact that some of the agents are working in Sabre and the website is Shares might explain some of the fare availability issues?

Airfares also change all the time...probably even more so these days due to the gas price issue and keeping up (or down) with the competition.

Just some thoughts...

I've had it happen twice pre-merger (HP Plat line vs. americawest.com) - once human was more expen$ive, and the other it was cheaper. Didn't think much of it - maybe just a timing difference, and just booked the cheaper one, of course.

Yeah, if the web and reservations on different rez systems that could be a very valid reason why there is a difference. That makes more sense now.
