It won't mean a lot to many people, except people who live in Baltimore - but the "New" US Airways has removed Baltimore's identity from its reservation system. If one were to search for flight availability and choose a departure city from a list, you don't find Baltimore there. They've now changed it so that it's listing is "Washington, DC (BWI)". It's like saying "San Francisco (SJC)". or "Baltimore (IAD)". It's not accurate. Sure, people from the DC Metro have used BWI since the entrance of WN, that's true; but so have people from PHL. But at least WN, in advertising fares to DC (BWI) still lists Baltimore as an individual city on its reservation system. So does every other airline and hotel chain. They are two very different cities. And like I said, it may not be a big deal to people who didn't grow up here. Just something annoying to me, especially given US's history here.

That's just weird. Yeah BWI is a Baltimore airport. Sure, it may be convenient for some DC travelers but it's stilll a Baltimore airport.

I noticed this last week and also thought it was a bit odd. It is, of course, Baltimore/Washington International, but everybody I know refers to it as Baltimore.
I could see it causing some confusion for the occasional traveler who wants to fly to Baltimore but doesn't know the BWI airport code, because the website doesn't know about the locations "Baltimore" or "Baltimore,MD"... you must type "BWI" or "Washington" to make a reservation.
What's worse is that if you try to find the Baltimore airport using the "find airport" feature, you will be unable to locate BWI by looking for airports in Maryland. It is instead classified as a District of Columbia airport, along with DCA and IAD. *None* of these airports are actually in DC. Neither DCA nor IAD are listed as Virginia airports either.

I suspect it's because BWI is part of the WAS - Washington All Airports code. BWI has been trying for years to be identified as a Washington airport. That's why it was renamed to BWI in the first place. That said, it would certainly be confusing to anyone wanting to travel to Baltimore (assuming such a creature exists :p ).

Well, Peter Angelos seems to think it's all one market, so why not US Airways?

Good one!
They should fix this, BWI is mostly a Baltimore airport.

But BWI wants so badly to be considered a Washington airport. So, they are getting what they deserve.

The old usairways.com would let you search all three DC-area airports by inserting the code "WAS." The new website requires you to choose one of the three (although they do make it easy to look at nearby airports).

They do the same for NYC. I find it a bit of a hassle to try all three (LGA, EWR, and JFK) separately. And if you choose "include nearby airports", it includes ISP, HPN, HVN, and SWF...

That's ok. PHL is still listed as "Philadelphia, PA/Wilmington, DE" despite being about 30 miles apart.

On the date of my first post, I sent a quick email to US explaining what I saw, and the difference between Baltimore and Washington. I never received a reply, but now notice that Baltimore is listed by itself as "Baltimore". Coincidental, or did they listen?
Now I'm thinking about writing them about the need more more F seats on the 757's............... :D

yes - note my post right above yours. Thus my (apparently failed) attempt at humor - saying that, if they did that following my email suggestion to them, maybe I'll start emailing them about other things...like the 757. Haha.
Ok---I'm stickin' to the day job.

BWI has also now crossed state lines and moved into Maryland, according to the "find airports" link on the website. This seems like a good choice. (However, a better choice of user interface might have BWI listed under both DC and MD, just in case the travelling public is as undecided about geography as certain web designers... but now I'm nitpicking.)
