What is the US airways policy for delaying travel if ill? Does this apply to everyone on the reservation, i.e two people travelling together and one gets sick?

I got sick a few months back, and as a CP they did nothing. Changed tix and cost 100bucks plus cost of fare increase. If I have it to do over, I will get on the plane and barf all over, no more changing!

I asked the question once and was told 'that's why people take out travel insurance'

I have no problems that they apply the change/cancel policies to sick people that are applied to everyone else. If not, people would be trying to make changes/cancellations for things as simple as a hangnail.
Now...if you become hospitalized and are able to provide really good, solid documentation to USAirways, then it's reasonable that they look at these situations on a case by case basis. But coming down with a bad cold or flu doesn't cut it. Travel Insurance is the way to go.

I had a hernia, had to get surgery and called usair, they accomodated me after I faxed in the hospital documents...as he said case by case basis ;)

Happened to me last week, and the nice lady at the CP desk figured
out that it would be cheaper for me just to buy a one-way ticket ...
grr ... and to top it off, they put me on the upgrade list but not on
the manifest for the flight, and of course you can't get upgraded if
you're not on the flight ... double grr ... everyone was very cordial
about not accommodating me, though.

For anyone who is interested, there was a similar discussion on the United thread a while back, about whether the airline had any duty to keep sick people from flying.
Officially, the only cause for refund of a non-refundable fare is death. Other than that, any fees are up to the passenger or travel insurance.
Unofficially, they may be accommodating. Unfortunately, too many people have faked illness to get around change/refundability.

After flying about 280+ flights last year, and another 150+ this year, and NEVER missing one, you wouldve thought they wouldve took my doctors note to delay my flight. Oh well, this plus MILLIONS of other reasons have pushed me to NW!
OT, but did anyone ever get sick on the F meal available PHL-MIA or PHL-MSP on US? Oh wait, there is NONE! The NW meal is great i must say!

NW serves a meal from PHL-MIA? Do they even fly this route? I must say they must have really pissed you off to, as a PHL based flyer to switch to NW. Are you enjoying connecting at IND/DTW/MEM?

Well, by the time you get your meal on the PHL-MIA run on NW (which, of course, is really PHL-DTW-MIA or PHL-MSP-MIA), the nonstop PHL-MIA flight on US or AA will have landed already. Is the meal that important to you to not just get there and have a better meal on the beach?
