I hate this jockey as he always has screwed me at the Derby but he is a legend.
There isn't a chance for a Triple Crown winner, but going to Arlington Park still offers something out of the ordinary. Retired hall of fame jockey PAT DAY will be on hand to sign autographs of his 1989 Belmont Stakes win. While you're there, catch the simulcast of this year's race. June 10, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $6, autographed photos, $10, proceeds benefit Racetrack Chaplaincy of America. 2200 W. Euclid Ave., Arlington Heights, 847-385-7439, www.arlingtonpark.com

From recent article in Chicago Tribune editorial:
Arlington Park to spend $10 million on new synthetic track after terrible 2006 season where 22 horses had fractured limbs.
The new track will be ready for the May 4 start of the 2007 season.

Trib now states that the synthetic track is complete, horses took their first practice runs on the track this past Wednesday.
"the Polytrack surface, the first to be installed at a Midwestern track, looks like pencil shavings and is made of high grade silical sand, spandex fibers, rubber and ground up bits of jelly cable"
The track's 80th season opens May 4
edited to add: Friday's at Arlington are a hoot, we might have to have some Do's there this season.

FWIW Sweet Willie, I love how much you appear to love Chicago, and are such a good evangelist for our fine city. Thanks!
