i'm going to try and have this sounding UA related :) i'm flying UA 951 IAD-SFO next wednesday, and have almost a 2 hour layover before heading down to SAN. here are my options...
a) eat dinner at yankee pier and enjoy anchor steam
OR
b) check out the new anchor brewing pub down by gate 69 (i think)
can anyone tell me how good the anchor place is? i've been to yankee pier and think the food is pretty good. any insight would be appreciated!

I had the lobster sandwich there a while back and it was excellent..

You might also consider heading out of the secure area, and over to the International Terminal for more options.

Either of those (Yankee Pier, Int'l terminal food) are good options - as far as inside-an-airport stuff goes.

Good idea, but sometimes the TSA are not so willing to let you into the Intl terminal if you don't have a BP for those gates.

Correct, but there are eats just past the ticketing area (non-secure)

Ah, I thought you were referring to the great Japanese place inside the secure terminal. Great food there. ^

The new anchor pub beats yankee pier hands down IMO. But I never liked Yankee Pier much.

Also the eats in Int'l terminal are no different from Domestic terminals - they're just concentrated. On each side there is what amounts to chinese, japanese, pizza/pasta, diner and a coffee bar. Same options (even same providers) are available in terminal 3 if you're willing to walk around a bit.

what kind of anchor draft beer to they have? i assume anchor steam and liberty...
oh yeah, there's a chance 951 will arrive at international cause it could be the one that continues down to SYD, as was UA595 DEN-SFO was when i went to SYD last year.
but i prefer to be either at yankee pier or anchor since i've been to practically every place in SFO.

The eats are indeed different. There is a branch of Ebisu, one of the best sushi bars in SF, in the international terminal behind the UAL checkin area...

Right, that is what I was thinking. I haven't ever seen Ebisu (didn't remember the name before) in the UA domestic terminal.

Anyone have experience on arriving SFO on UA internationally, departing UA domestic... with a long layover... .. How much time do you need in order to get someplace "interesting" in SF. Perhaps a neat area for a fun/nice lunch?

Agree with the Ebisu sushi recomendation at the Itn area. I frequent there place in the city on 9th ave and they are my 1st pick for sushi in SFO. Even native Japanese friends have been impressed. The one in the aiport is great considering the quality of most airport food.

For the sake of those searching for this sort of good information in the future, I am going to move this to the San Francisco forum and leave a re-direct here.

There is also a Gordon Biersch by gate 74. A step down from Anchor Steam but they have great garlic fries.

If you've got at least 5-6 hours, I would recommend taking BART to the Embarcadero Station (45 min ride) and then walking around the Ferry Building and maybe having lunch in there. Or you can picnic on the piers.
