Not sure if this has been discussed, but it looks like there is a new service to check in bags at the downtown Moscone Center with airportbags:

The press release indicates that the service is geared towards people who are attending a convention. It's pretty unclear as to if outsiders can use the service and what the hours of the kiosk are....

I might try it in August....is anyone else going to give it a shot?
