Are radar detectors now legal? I took mine off while driving to/from Maine but my brother in law said that the ban on them was over years ago. He's from LI so I'm not sure if he has his facts correct. So what's the story? Thanks.

I moved to TX from CT over nine years ago and they head lifted the ban before I moved.

I've driven through CT lots of times with a radar detector. They were illegal up until 1995. As far as I know, you may use them now.

Yes, they are allowed in CT. Be careful, as they are always doing radar. Tickets in CT are very expensinve!

I grew up in CT and I remember lots of smokies back then. Now that I've lived in Lalaland for 20 years, on a recent trip back I was just amazed at how many state police cars I saw. Sometimes there would be 2 sitting on the side of the road chatting! In CA you know the CHP is around somewhere but you rarely see them and they are nowhere near as omnipresent as in CT.
Police state indeed.

Have you seen some of the cars they have? I have seen them in souped up Mustangs, awesome camaros and more! The police in North Haven even have a Hummer!

My ticket came on the way to the casino in CT. Not the type of gambiling I wanted to start the night out with :)
The other thing to watch out for is you pass a trooper with a radar gun, you figure you're home free so you speed up, and right over the hill is another one who knows people do that. I see that a lot on I-84 toward Hartford coming from the Mass. Pike, right after the state line.
