Ok, not that I really care, as I have since defected...but...last week I received my CP packet for 2006. Card said it was good until 2/2008. (I have already qualified for 2006).

I received 2 DMTUALMNOP's (T/A upgrade certs) good until 6/30/2007. Will I get new certs for 2007-2/2008 next year, even though I wont get a new card?

Or, did Dougie P figure he could save some money by giving out card for next year and no certs? This was a good plan if it plays out that way. Hummm..wonder who they can merge with in 2008 to save on the certs???

I have talked to no person who has been able to find a seat for use with those certificates at any time during the last 4 months. So, if you never receive them, do not fret about it. One person in our office tried yesterday for an LGA-PHL-ROM 2 ticket "B" fare reservation in early November and received the infamous "no soup for you" response from US. They then booked their reservation on Alitalia in business class JFK-ROM.

When on earth is the organizational IQ at US going to rise above 23?

I'm not sure this is a problem particular to the CP coupons, but rather the generally tighter 'R' bucket capacity. Personally, I've had a close to perfect success rate with these certs - granted, the last time was in January 06.

Just to add a datapoint, I was able to upgrade FRA-PHL-FRA in late September w/ miles on the exact dates I wanted. I was a bit surprised. Maybe having two flights a day helps...

You have now. I have booked two trips, for a total of four seats (both of us are CP's) PHX to FCO and LGW in September and October, using pretty reasonable B fares. In each case, all four legs were confirmed into Envoy.

I got my first choices in each case and there was a lot of availability.

What are you talking about?
All my upgrades with DMUTAs (FCO and LGW) have cleared before departure.

Has that been in the last few months? All of the people who I have talked with have not been trying to use them to LGW or FRA, where US capacity is 2X what it is elsewhere on the continent. They have all been AMS, FCO, MUC and CDG. Success rate there for them has been 0% with B fares, most of the time 2 to 3 weeks in advance, but sometimes 6 months in advance.

PHL-FCO in W (lowest fare) is $930 r/t. In B it is $2,172. That means the upgrade costs you $621 each way ($2,172 r/t). That's about $90 per travel hour for Envoy.

Last few years, last few months, all the time...
Sometimes the B fare upgrade is not available at reservation, but if you wait for a few weeks, it will eventually clear.
And for a CP that knows what he is doing, the risk of traveling in steerage is close to zero.
How do you define success rate?

Sure. B class PHX-LGW, confirmed in First and Envoy using DMUTA5 = $914.80 each.

If you are a frequent traveler, right now a changeable/refundable "B" FCO-PHL is 1600$ ;)

Arranged tickets PHL/FCO with DMUTA's for a bit less than that for August travel a few months ago. Got Row 1 too.
