My apologies for being dumb and blind, but what have I missed regarding upgrades to a new reservation? I need to book travel for later this week and next, and fall within the 7 Day Window. When I go to book a flight, it doesn't prompt me to apply e-upgrades like the old site did. How does one get the upgrade when booking via the new web site?
Thanks,

Oh boy, like that will actually happen...  :(
I guess you have no choice as to seat assignment even if the upgrade happens?

So if I understand this automatic thing, I no longer need to call in advance for them to tell me that there are no available upgrades? I can just proceed right to the gate dance?

In theory, it cuts down on phone support... except for all the people like me and you trying to get seat assignments... only took three phone calls to gets seats... and batted one for two on the upgrades... They said the BOS-PHX was sold out in F!
Very Efficient!
I feel bad for the inbound and CP staff....
Maybe I'll stop by Tempe while I'm in PHX and see how the IT Dept is....

If booking within your window, call immediately for an upgrade. If you have not reached your window, the upgrade will process automatically (no more queues to get on).

It does happen. I had two flights clear at the window this week already. Even received the upgrade confirmation email. Once you are upgraded, then pull your reservation up online and you can switch your seat assignment. Although, I have read in other posts that the online seat selection feature does not work for US-stock tickets issued prior to May 22nd, but I have no way to verify that as my tickets are all HP.

That's the way to do this. HP has never had an "apply e-upgrade" function on its site and I don't see it on the new one. So, if you book within your upgrade window you have to call to get upgraded, which they'll do, provided, of course, there are upgradable seats available.
Or, you can not call and you should be upgraded overnight (again, assuming space is available) when they run the auto upgrade sweep.

I made exactly one reservation on the new website, yesterday. There is no option to upgrade, so I went ahead and purchased it and then called the CP desk for an upgrade. They told me I had already been upgraded automatically (the flight was 6-days out). I did not recieve any notification either via the website or email that I was upgraded.
Still, I'm a bit apprehensive because when I go to "Manage my Reservations" on the website, my reservation is there but I can't view the details. Plus, the CP agent was unable to pull up the reservation with the confirmation code that the website (and confirmation email) gave me. However, she assured me that my reservation is in the system and I've been upgraded.
Actually, maybe my reservation is fixed now. I don't know, because today I can't log in to the website at all.
Updated to add: I'm allowed to log in again, but my reservation details are still unavailable.

I was under the impression that if you're in your window, you got upgraded as soon as the reservation is made, with no need to wait for the nightly sweep. Is this not the case? I was excited about that.
I wish US would make someone available for a FT chat, like other airlines have done. Does anyone have any idea how/who organized those? I REALLY wish US would appoint someone to answer questions on FT like Starwood does, but I'd settle for the chat thing.

In my experience with HP's system, that never happened. I've always had to call for the upgrade if I booked within my upgrade window. (Theoretically, you should be upgraded overnight during the sweep, but I've never taken that risk. I've always called and checked on it immediately upon booking.) It's possible they've made changes to this functionality with the new site, but I'll be surprised if that's the case. There appear to be very few enhancements from what the HP site was prior to this conversion.

Randy Petersen (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/member.php?userid=251) is the man you need to talk to.

That would absolutely shock me. In my experience, US's commitment to customer support is nowhere near the level that would be required for that.

If you booked on the old usairways.com, you have to call for an upgrade if you are not already "in the queue." The CP Liaison I talked to yesterday told me that one may need to call through June 9. She said that they were told that upgrades should be automatic after that date.

After a review of this board, it would shock me if they could get anyone to take on the job!

I have a US ticket stock with flights on both US and HP (so US and HP confirmation codes) for tommorrow. It doesn't show up automatically, with my account, but I can pull it up here (http://www2.usairways.com/awa/manageReservation/findReservation.aspx) . Before the new website launched I had put myself on the upgrade queue, don't know if that was important. I have been upgraded on two out of three upgradable legs (stupid CR9 :td: ). One of the upgrades is HP and one is US. I had to call for seat assignments. Managed to get the last row 2 seat on a US 734 ^ . I can also still see this reservation under US code on virtuallythere (https://www.virtuallythere.com/) . Also worth noting - If I look up my resevation with one the code from one side, the seat assignment for flights on the other side are out of date or just unknown.
I also have a United stock US flight (codeshare) in about a week and I can pull that up using the US confirmation code. You can call United to get that.

I beg to differ with you, EnvoyBoy: This is the kind of challenge that someone with initiative at US would willingly volunteer to take on. I can't think of a more daunting challenge than navigating the Flyertalk minefield at present! And I'm willing to bet that collectively we would be so grateful for this individual's presence that we would embrace him/her with open arms. (At least I know I would.)

One thing I have seen, is when not getting upgraded, I have called Dividend Miles, they checked the reservation and upgrade me automatically. Strange this happened my last 2 flights. I keep missing most of the automatic upgrades and getting them from the agent... I am a CP too.
So if you miss at the 7 day window, I would call, seems they are not running it often enough..

The auto-upgrade works kind of. I booked one trip just about 24 hours in advance, and auto-upgrade did not work (had to call the CP desk to get upgraded). But another flight booked for next Monday did auto-upgrade within the window (after they sent the confirmation e-mail for the initial reservation) - had to go on the website and check the reservation where it showed I was seated in F. Go figure - let's see if it works consistently (and I imagine it will after June 9).

Although I am usually in the queue and almost always get upgraded, I have always had to call because I was never assigned a seat and the old usairways.com did not allow seat selection.
