I usually fly paid F, and it has never happened to me since 1984. That's probably because no airline oversells F. I believe the only case under which it might happen is if you print a 24 hour boarding pass, show up 5 minutes before departure, and find that your seat has been given to a 15 minute upgrader. In that case the upgrader gets to keep the seat.
