I needed a domestic award seat in July and to my surprise found just what I wanted online for 25,000 miles!!! But the seat was for my wife who was out and I dared not lock it in without her OK. I could find no way to reserve as contrasted to "purchase" it so I called US Air and had the seat put on hold through May 31. If done online the cost would have been $7.50 for the security fees. Over the phone cost an extra $5 booking fee which is no big deal. It just seemed silly to have to waste an agent's time on something I should have been able to do myself. Is there an online hold option for award seats?

Congratulations, you just found out one of the new enhancements on the new website.
They took away the "three day hold" option for award tickets.

As a consumate optimist I have been digging around trying to find it buried somewhere, and it is buried nowhere. It is pretty clear that everything meaningful to customers has disappeared. But it's all made up for by those 847 destinations in 150 countries, those 7 day upgrades, the best in class Envoy class, low fares, endless standard mileage award seats, tripling of blackout dates and non-disclosed capacity controls, full service, etc. It is so sad it makes me laugh.
