This guy walked up to a gate agent at PHX T4 asking her where his flight will leave from. The agent said that "I can't tell you, it is a US Air flight."
The guy got really confused and said "But you are US Air".
The agent said "We are but the computer systems are not merged yet so I can't tell you." Then she said "All the US Air flights depart out of gates Bxx, Bxx, Bxx".
I can see how this can be confusing for people who don't follow the industry and don't fly often.
You would think they can at least do something on the system so they can pull up the fight information for US Air flights through some codeshare tricks.
If this is not covered, I wonder what else is missed...

They are working on it. Maybe they should not have "merged" the airlines until they had full computer/FF capabilities. To the agent's credit, he did tell the passenger which gate(s) the US Airways flights leave from. Of course, the agent could have picked up the phone and called someone and asked for the passengers.

The idiot pax could have looked at the flight status monitors also.

Have you seen the condition of some of the monitors in Phoenix??? My God, you would think that they could keep them in good operating condition in their primary hub!?!
BTW, that "idiot passenger" is a paying customer. AFAIK, the passenger has the right to ask a reasonable question to a gate agent. The passenger may have been visually impaired and unable to see the monitors. My grandmother had that problem. BIRD, if I were you, I would think before insulting a paying passenger. I learned a long time ago in grad school that there's no such thing as a stupid question!

I helped an older lady looking at the monitors one day for her gate. I thought it was odd that she asked a fellow passenger for help, then it dawned on me later that she may have been illiterate.

I think that the HP PHX agents could learn a lot from the CLT US-East agents.

I would hate to stereo type agents... I know there are some really nice/sweet people in Pheonix, and there are some that I would prefer to never deal with again...
I do think they need to treat all customers as THEIR OWN CUSTOMERS. This is one holding company and all profits come to one corporation... So if they like it or not.. they are representing US AIRWAYS.
One thing that annoys me is the formerly AMERICA WEST Agents calling these US AIR flights. They were never US AIR, so I can not understand how they get this bad habit... PHL, CLT, etc.. they were US AIR, so it is quite easy to keep calling themselves that..
Sorry for all the Rants.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, but this whole discussion revolves around the former USAirways flights to PHL, CLT, etc. That was what the OP was talking about.
If you are talking about the use of "US Air" rather than "US Airways", I am guilty of that. The former "US Airways" marketing department was horrible and never got most of the country to use the "US Airways" name. They even transitioned while I lived in Ohio, where US had a HUGE presence at the time. Very poor marketing effort. I will probably continue to use "US Air" and "America West".
