Hi There,

My company travel agent originally booked us into the Park Hyatt, but I just discovered it got converted to a Le Meridien.

I heard some bad reports of this hotel and want to change to a different one.

My office in SFO will be in Harrison Street

I came to SFO a few years ago and stayed at the Westin and really like the Union Square area. However I don't really know the city that well and want to seek some advice from you all.

I want to find a hotel that is not too far away from my office, but also to be in an area that has many restaurants, bars etc... so that we cna go out afterwork. What hotel/area would you recommend?

Thanks

It is number 2. I am unsure of the nearest cross street

Well for close to your office, there is Kimpton's Harbour Court Hotel. http://www.harborcourthotel.com/ Then you would just be a couple of blocks from the office.

A few blocks further is the Hyatt Regency at Embarcadero. Not as nice as the Park, but it would be close.

Otherwise, there are tons of hotels around Union Square...

Hi Dave,

I don't think there's anything wrong with the Park Hyatt/Meridien (I walk by it once a week, and the rooms are very nice.) But if you're working out of 2 Harrison, you really want to be on The Embarcadero. In addition to the Harbor Court (a good suggestion), the new Hotel Vitale is very nice and very new - directly across from the renovated Ferry Building.

There are a slew of bars and restaurants in the Ferry Building and along Steuart Street (one block in from the bay - The Embarcadero runs along San Francisco Bay.) I lunch on Steuart street once or twice a week.

Union Square is always nice, but that is a schlep/cab/etc. from 2 Harrison.

The map shows Le Meridien as the start point. The Hyatt Regency is marked. The Vitale is located across the street from Pier 2 (to the left of Pier 2 on the map).

I don't know if the Joy de Vivre hotels participate in any points/miles programs.

One comment about the Vitale website - the publicist sure is doing a good job getting word about the hotel into magazines and other publications :)

Thanks all for your advice.

I actually decided to stay at the Le Meridien as there seems to be more to do @ night around there and it is closer to Union Sq. Also the rate we got is pretty good.

Is Taxi hard to get Downtown during the morning?

I believe that the LM has a car service (free - but for tips) in the mornings but you have to reserve with the concierge.

I park across the street from Le Meridien and there is always a queue of cabs waiting along Clay Street. It's quite easy to hail a cab in the morning downtown.

Unless you're schlepping a whole lot of stuff, it's a pleasant 20 minute walk...
