I'm looking for some thoughts on Dim Sum in the D.C. area. I'm quite a fan of Fortune (Seven Corners especially), but was wondering what other people are fond of.

I'm not a fan of Chinese food in general (read happily go years without eating it) but I had a nice Dim Sum at China Kingdom in Rosslyn. (11oo Wilson Blvd)

Actually it's China Garden (not Kingdom) and they do have good dim sum. I would definitely second that recommendation.

Another good place is Fortune in Falls Church:
6249 Arlington Blvd. (in Seven Corners Center), Falls Church. 703-538-3333.

Lucky Three in Bailey's Cross Road in Falls Church has Dim Sum buffet for $9.95 during the week and it's a good value.

Good Fortune in Wheaton, MD is good too.

I, too, am a fan of China Garden although you definitely want to get there before 11:30 on Sundays (earlier on Mother's Day). The variety here is pretty big, and you can usually special order your favorite dishes with a waiter if you don't see them passing by in a push-cart.

The other place I really like - and will go out of my way for - is Oriental East in Silver Spring. You also want to get there before 11:30 on the weekends, and it also employs push-carts.

I think both are better than Fortune, but that's just my opinion :)

I'll put China Garden and Oriental East on my list for next visit.

BTW, I prefer other restaurants than Fortune too. There is Mark's Duck House across from the Fortune which is better, IMHO.

I havent lived there for a while but when I did I really oved Fortune. I think that Asian food in general is the only area in which the DC area really excels. The Chinese and Vietnamese places are better than in NY in my opinion.

Maybe Vietnamese, but definitely DC Chinese food cannot even come close to NY Chinese food. Have you ever been to Flushing? Those Chinese restaurants far eclipse any of the DC area restaurants.

NYC has far better Chinese restaurant than DC but DC has far better Vietnamese restaurants.
