I am planning a week's holiday to SF with my family in early December. Appreciate if you could let me know as to what kind of weather we can expect. Can we expect a lot of rain or can we hope for some nice clear days even if its a little cold.

The rainy season here generally runs from November to about April, so I'd plan on rain. Generally the storms come down from Alaska for a day or two of rain, and then it will be clear for a few days. Of course, after it rained almost every day in March, I don't know if anyone is going to venture how much rain we'll have in December.

Although there is never a guarantee, the earlier part of December tends to be drier.
Predict the weather in San Francisco? What neighborhood will you be in?
Seriously, it is likely to be wet, but not rainy. Expect a fine mist with temps in the 50s or so.

During the rainy season it'll rain maybe 20%~30% of the time. The rain sometimes come in long spells, sometimes in short spells too.
So it can either be clear all during your stay, or rain every day, or rain a couple days, it depends on your luck.
I'd say it will most likely not rain during your stay, but I wouldn't depend on it.

Total crap shoot... could be a week of rain or a week of sun or a mix. A week of rain is more likely than a week of sun. Temps not likely to be above 60. Come prepared... layers, layers, layers, and a good rain jacket.

The best way to plan is for 3 seasons everyday. :D Layers of clothing work best: shirt, sweater, lined wind cheater and rain shell.
It can be gloriously sunny all day or raining cats and dogs all day or half and half. Every few years we do get a cold snap into the hight 30s.

Teacher49 is spot on, no matter what pack a sweatshirt and some sort of rain protection.
This winter for example was terrible, by about mid March, I was seriously thinking about building an ark :D
