PLT colleague was invited to a LY event on May 19 at the Hilton w/Haim Romano. What's that all about?

Can we try to crash?
Btw - does your PLT colleague fly on a specific route? Sometimes LY has meetings with PL that fly predominatly on one route.

My work collegue was there today. I will give you guys a run down next week (as he's not informed me of the discussions).

Only 20 people were invited (these are the top 20 FQTV's on LY Matmid programe).

From what I heard, they discusse the new business clas, and that they are not going to lower prices on their monopoly to the far east.

Ok..so here it is.

From what i gathered from my source (who was in attendance) it goes as follows.

There will be 3 updated classes
-Economy
-Business
-Business First ???

Yep...that’s right...Business First?? I'm as clueless as you.

Supposedly it will be a premium product over regular Business but will accommodate for the Business First cabin to increase. From the way I read it, they will be expanding the Old First Class from 6 seats to 18, and keep the Business class as is, therefore reducing the current Economy Format.

The price for Business First tickets will be considerably higher than Regular Business.

As far as I’m concerned... it's all very confusing.

The NEW seats (whole aircraft) will first be installed on the 2007 Delivered 777-200ER's, they will also include what has been tipped as the most 'Advanced In-Flight Entertainment System' (Chaim Romano) any airline has seen....(??).

Finally they will be adding another 2 flights a week to HKG and in 2007 will possibly be flying to Korea, as Japan is not an option at the moment (Korea being a pretty good Asian connection)

All in all very confusing...

If anyone else could get more info on this it would be helpful.

??????
so business will be like a premium economy?
and the business first will be a premium business.
so no real business class and no First.
Probably classes A, C and I wil sit in Business First and D, W, and Y (maybe S??) in Business.
i think its time to call LY and ask them

It seems that EL AL have decided that they cannot compete for quality of service with the likes of BA, Quantas, Singapore, Emirates, Lufthansa, etc and have decided to follow the 'el cheapo' route of Continental (and Israir?). There may not be many on this forum who travel in First, but the worldwide trend is (in general) to upgrade it even further. It's not just the seats, but the whole service aspect. I for one would probably opt for BA via London or LH via Frankfurt if travelling to New York, or those same airlines to Hong Kong if EL AL no longer offered First Class SERVICE on those routes.

In addition, I do think that only consulting Platinum members may not give a complete picture of passenger trends. Let me explain. A person who can afford to travel business class 5 times a year to London (and who therefore just scrapes into Gold) and who will ALWAYS choose business class over economy, changes jobs and needs to travel every 2 weeks. That's about 20 times a year. They may well be forced to travel economy and rely on the occasional upgrade to business class. They are now Platinum. Do they relate to economy versus business in the same manner as they did when flying 5 times per year? I suggest that they do not, and my own conversations with other PLs vindicates this view. The same exercise may be done between business class and First, with the same results. People who are not PLs and do not travel more than once a month look at the world very differently. I have ample evidence to suppport that claim!

I don't get it...
A 'Business-First' product would usually be a replacement for Business class and First class all in one, so why would they come out with a 'Business-First' product and yet keep Business class as well???

as usual with LY, it seems like they are doing just about nothing. Maybe their BusinessFirst will be J seats but with a higher level of service/food.
if so, then it would allow them flexibility on the size of the C/J cabins, while collecting $$$$ for the extra level of 'service'.
sounds like a sham in any regard.
