You offer no specifics, so I suggest you fly in the winter from New York City, and you will find fares well under $500 ;)

MSP to MAN and separate ticket from MAN to AMS. Just beware of enough time between flights, the need for checking in again and also the lower intra-Europe baggage limitations.

You also did not mention if you have an airline preference. If budget is the primary factor, watch for Icelandair specials out of MSP.
