Good day all.

I might do a study abroad to Vaxjo, Sweden next year and was wondering what anyone can tell me about the city/town and/or Sweden in general. Thanks for the help.

Most all of the country feels like it is asleep on Sunday -- since most everything is closed. :D

Vaxjo University is outside of central Vaxjo but is connected by bus to the town center and/or can be walked (in c. 40 minutes) or biked (in c. 15 minutes).

If going to school there, live on campus. Accomodations there are basic --think a lot of studio apartments -- and cheap.

So I take it you have been to Vaxjo before?

What do they eat? Is the stereotype true that they eat a lot of fish?

Yes, I've been to Vaxjo a lot -- second to the amount of time I have spent in Lund and in Stockholm but I've been there a lot of times.

Vaxjo is land-locked .... just with a few lakes around. What do they eat? The same thing everyone else eats in most parts of Sweden: grocery store food.

The most "trendy" place to hang out is the restaurant/bar in a glass enclosement attached to what's (IIRC) the Elite Hotel in Vaxjo Centrum. Nothing special. There are two Thai restaurants .... one close to the Vaxjo Library (not the campus one, but the city library).

Vaxjo is in the heart of Smalland .... and historically that region was one of the poorer places in Sweden. Smalland is the source of a plurality of Swedish immigrants that found their way to America who left Sweden to find better opportunities because farm land was awful in Smalland.
