I have an 8:00 a.m. United/Ted flight on a Thursday in early May from LAS. How are the D gate security lines that time of day? What time would you recommend getting to the airport?

I have never waited more than 30 mins at D Gates. They move those lines fast. An hour before your flight is plenty of time.

No problems with wait time in Vegas for a long time. Arrive 75-90 minutes before departure.

This is true... and is also great advise if you have done OLCI with boarding pass in hand... BUT.. some airlines do enforce a 60 minute limit on check-in at LAS. I don't really know about United, so it might NOT be the case in this instance.

BUT, I was denied check-in at 50 minutes for a flight last year... all because I was running a bit late... and hit 5 more minutes traffic than expected. (and, of course, this was the ONE TIME I didn't do OLCI)

Helpful, thank you!

Another question: would I be able to use the elite security line for the D gates with a UA boarding pass (which, since it's Ted, is not for First Class :( ) if I show a NW Gold or AS MVP Gold card?

You can use your United status to go through the First Class/Premier line for D gates. They expanded the criteria for who qualifies to include passengers with status.

Good to know! Thank you. (even for a lowly Premier?)

That is good to know, but this past Saturday evening, the refused to allow a Delta Platinum (with his Medallion card in hand) the use of the First security line, so YMMV. [I was traveling NW, my upgrade hadn't cleared (yet) --- I didn't even bother showing my Platinum card... since they have given me a problem in the past...]

The person working the line said that is was for First Class only (she gave this guy a real hard time... looked at his ticket real closely and said... you aren't in First Class... really harsh and really nasty... sort of crazy considering it was just a little past midnight) . Maybe they just like to give Delta passengers a hard time. :D
